Today in school, I got bored... I took out my keys, and on my chain is an old 72 pin 512kb mem. stick. I noticed that it had a sliver streak on it...then I was thinking, how did that happen. So I emptyed out my pockets and found a pack of Trident (the big pack) and some of the paint(?) was missing off of the package. So, I ripped off a peice and rubbed it on the chips and they all turned silver! The kind I have is Trident Freshment Valu-Pack (something like that). Try it, oh yea it rubbs off kinda easy too, so that makes it easy to clean off! Looks good too! Try it!

That'd be fine on slow RAM modules, but I wouldn't try it on overclocked or DDR modules. The only thing you want to be touching your module chips is air.

I doubt it would do any harm, considaring the only thing it is doing is filling in the grooves on the chip with aluminium, or something similar. Also, I couldnt get it to work on my old/new pc100 chips, havnt tried 133s, prolly not gonna
I think because I used a dremal to polish those chips, or becuase theyre old tech., thats the reason it seems to be only working on those, the coating resembles ASII

Wow... I just checked back to this thread to mention that! I was going to suggest smearing ACII over it!

or a large chunk of metal

If that large chunk of metal happens to be made of aluminum, and has been cut multiple times vertically on one side, creating fins. =P

Copper wouldn't work on such a low-wattage application. And I don't know WHAT kind of emtal is in gum wrappers, it feels like aluminum, but what's the point of putting aluminum on every stick of gum?

I think is has something to do with keeping gum dry an unexposed. If you live in a humid climate, you have to put rice grains in your salt shaker and sugar cup to keep it from clumping up--similarly, keeping the powdered sugar coating on gum dry would also be a desired effect.

An ultra thin aluminum sheet is pressed into a certain layer of candy wrappers for the same reason; to keep it fresh.

you can do something simmilar with the foil from cigarette packs (No, I don't suggest you start smoking just to make your chips "pretty looking"). Take the foil from a cigarette pack and crumple it. unfold it and you should be able to separate the paper side from the foil. You can then rub the foil on whatever you want and the remaining adhesive should make it stick to what ever you rubed it on. I have no idea what the adhesive will do to components, so do it AT YOUR OWN RISK. I don't know if it works with american cigarette packs, but I can't imaging the foil is all that different in america.

I too have an old stick of ram as my keychain. My ram also has developed a silver line. In my case though, mine appears to be created by the rubbing of my keys against the chips. It's really strange.
