Hello all,

I just installed my new XP 1800. From all I have been reading on the 1800 it comes locked. I am using a K7T266 Pro-R with bios 1.6a. I have done some bios tweaking and I am able to up the FSB to 143 for a clock speed of 1645. No I have not tried to push it higher. The strange thing is I can't adjust the CPU ratio - it defaults to the stock 11.5. My question is - if this chip is locked why can I up the FSB with no problem? I set the voltage to 1.85 but I don't even know if it is running that high. The L1 bridges are so small I could barely see them! Does anyone have any Ideas? It's as if half the chip is unlocked.

its clock locked which means you cant change the multiplier but you can adjust the fsb to wahtever your computer can handle

1 reason why i wont buy one

second is my 1.4 still smokes it and its unlocked

I've been messing with mine for a few days, and doing some research:
multiplier is locked, apparently the same L1 trick is needed but due to the canyons carved into the XP it is more difficult. I am waiting for some more reports on this before I try it!

I ran for a day @stock 1.533 and started bumping FSB up in bios slowly- I'm at 136/34.something fsb/pci right now- no problems besides load temps.
I've been running the junk coolermaster from AMD and getting around 50c (case fans in decent spots) so I've been unwilling to go higher.

I just tossed in a Mini Super Orb ( don't laugh at me! lol) just to see what happens, expecting a few more degrees- lo and behold! I actually dropped 5c!!!!!!!
I'm bumping up to 140 fsb to see what it does now.

C'mon! I have an unlocked 1.4 as well, that is what I just replaced with the 1800! This chip is faster, hands down. I was running the 1.4 @ 1610Mhz! 11.5 x 140.

If anyone knows of a good way to unlock this sucker please let me know! I don't want to do the defrost kit deal, too messy. I read somewhere someone was making metallic tape strips?

Ok, well I don't know much about the Athlon XP but I do know that the FSB is never locked, that's the only way to over clock an Intel processor from what I herd, and as for the multiplier lock on the Athlon XP, it's the exact same, u have to bridge the L1 leads, but I hear a rumor that the XP's have a nice little valley carved out between the leads, I saw a link on hear somewhere a little while ago where some people had posted some ideas on how to go about solving that problem since the pencil trick wont work anymore.

Ed posted some links in an article he wrote for the front page on how and where to find info on unlocing the multi on the XP.

There is indeed a "laser cut groove" between the L1 bridges. This can be circumvented with very careful application of rear defogger grid paint. Very careful.... I have yet to try this, but have read elsewhere where people have done it, and unlocked several multipliers doing this.

Check out Ed's article...one link leads to another, to another, to..... (you get the idea.) :D

I've had mine to 1725MHz... can't possibly imagine a 1.4 doing better than that.. 11.5 x 150 = 1725.

I've heard of an idea of filling up the valley with a non-conductive material to make it easier to connect the bridges.

I saw something about that trick, as well...lol I didn't "bookmark" the page...and I've been to SOOOOO many places lately looking for info on the XP. But, it has been done, and the info is out there....

I was born and raised the next town over (Abington). I've been in Weymouth for only a few years. Abington is Massachusetts' version of Sleepy Hollow. If someone told me the world was to end tomorrow, I'd drive over to Abington....everything happens there 50 years later....:p
