Ok here's the deal I'm building an A64 system I'm definetly getting a A64 3000+ venice chip, my questions are can I hit the magical 2.7ghz overclock with the Asus A8N SLI board either deluxe or premium. The last couple of things I need to know is what kind of ram should I get I'm lost when it comes to ram cuz I've been out of the loop for awhile, also what PSU should I get cuz I have dual BFG 6600 gt's thanks in advance for everyones advice

get the dfi sli board for overclocking.

Ram? Look for some tccd or UTT chips - if its rated to low latencies at above 240mhz or so, its almost certainly one of the two, UTT will require higher voltages though. If not on much of a budget, otherwise just get some el chepos as they wont limit your oc with dividers (just dont go soo cheap that they wont run stock speed reliably)

Get the befiest power supply you can afford. OCZ, fortron, PCPC, at least 550watt, 24 pin.

well I decided that I'm going to go with Enermax EG701AX-VE SFMA 2.0 NoiseTaker P Series 600 Watt ATX Power Supply SLi ready w/ Dual Fan, Smart Fan, P4, SATA(24P) for a PSU, and how about this ram? http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=006861&cid=RAM.178

if not maybe you can direct me to some ram with a link

also does the DFI board support optical audio out? thx!

No optical audio cable. Sadly this is a feature missing from so many motherboards and sound cards :(

Your PSU choice would not be my first option. Its not a total generic brand at least, but for that premium price there are better options available to you. I would recommend the OCZ powerstream 520w (which I own and I have nothing but praise for) or the SPARKLE FSP550-60PLG 550W. Both of those supplies are cheaper and have better reputations for being high quality ocing PSUs. I have not been wowed much by the PSUs with the dual 12v rails really. The quality supplies with the one beefy 12v rail just seem to be working better for most people.

thanks DeathKnight, I can get the OCZ powerstream 520 really cheap so I'm gonna go with that, I'm wondering your opinion on the motherboard, what do you think DFI or Asus?

DFI is the almost universal choice of overclockers for a good reason.

I'm just worried about somethings I read about people frying their DFI Boards, I see people getting great overclocks with them, plus I hear they are really pickey about the kind of ram you use is that true? thanks again Nealric

The DFI is not hard board to work with, you will not fry it don't worry.
Use OCZ RAM, the DFI loves that stuff and so do we :)
Any more questions?

actually lets keep this going, how about some suggestions for a cpu cooler solution!

Just a wor don the PSU: the Seasonic S12-600W is a superb performer too, in that same price range.
As far as HS go, I did a little reserach for myself, and I'll go with a Scythe Ninja WITH a 120mm fan. The TT Silent Tower+Fan also seems to be well rated. For more conventionnal air solution, the Thermalright XP-90 with a good 92mm fan is a solid performer, used by many here.
