View Full Version : Is there ANY performance increase with XP home edition over pro!!?
hi all i was just curious if anyone knows if there is ANY performance increase with the XP home edition over the pro edition? ie. for gaming..i was just curious as i know that the pro has more options but other then that...is it any slower??thanks in advance :)
No, it is the same Kernel and both use DX8a.
You are correct in that XP Pro has more functionality geared to businesses, but these additional services can be turned off if not needed with the exception of being able to log onto a domain.

Pro supports dual CPU's. Home does not.
That's true...but there are not very many games or desktop apps that support multi-thread processes. Without that support, your games and apps only use one of the procs...
So using that for a reason to get XP Pro is really insignificant...
Now if you going to run a high end database (SQL) or application server on it=, then purchasing XP for duel proc support is reasonable...
hehe, go to anandtech where over the past summer they did some testing of XP vs. 2000/NT - it was running 37% slower as a platform than the others...............they said this was due to the "bloated" amount of code.......think i will stick w/98SE since i prefer gaming........

What do you mean there aren't alot of apps out there that dont support SMP? There are tons. I could fill this whole page with common everyday apps that support SMP. Including games.
once i get my hands on a home edition im going to install it and do the bench marks see what i get.:D
and compare it to pro
I noticed my internet speed was faster with Win xp pro then with Win 98SE. But over all system speed did seem to be slower. I did not try any tweaking or anything so I'll have to experiment a bit.
