 anyone
First, disable onboard sound (and make sure it's still disabled).
Make sure the software mute in windows is not on (control panel-->sounds and audio devices). It's silly but you'd be surprised how many times that's all it was.
What type of speakers are you connecting? Have you make certain that the right wires are going into the right slots?
What are you doing to test for sound? If it's a media player sometimes they have their own mute button independent of window's mute.
Next step is purely drivers/other software/directx bug issues. USUALLY if reinstalling the drivers doesn't solve it, the motherboard is funar or the sound card is fubar. Since the only constant in the equation is the motherboard, I would start suspecting that a trace somewhere is broken. But this is the least likely possibility.
I wish I could be of more help, but when it gets deeper than reinstalling drivers it also gets VERY specific and you will only find someone whose experienced that issue with that motherboard with that sound card who will be able to help.
