i clocked my processor from 1.2gig to 1.32gig and then installed windows xp pro and since then my temp has risen by 10c from 43c to 53c.
is there any ideas from anybody what might have caused it to get hotter (the install of windows or the overclock)
i have also put a fresh batch of thermal paste on the core and this didnt help at all.
It was probably the OC that did it. I would check your case cooling.

it was only clocked 110mhz so how could that rise 10c, dont you think that is a bit much? or is that quite normal?
My guess would be that either XP does not support halt-on-idle, or you did not have ACPI enabled when you installed it. As I understand it, you need ACPI enabled to benefit from halt-on-idle.

Were your previous temps at idle or load?

Did you put a bunch of thermal goop in the proc? If so, I've heard extra goop that can insulate the chip and cause to to get hotter than it should be.

Those temps were almost certainly there b4 you overclocked. You have prolly not checked your temps load b4. My guess is that they would be at around 48C b4 the overclock. Another thing is that XP is much more demanding on the CPU than any other OS because of its gfx.
I would upgrade your hsf, get some AS-2 and install better case ventilation to overclock much more than what you are at. 52C Load is quite ok IF the temp readout is accurate. Normally, they're out by 5-10C which is bad.
I always slap some AS2 onto my thermal probe b4 installing the hsf to increase diode accuracy. Im happy now that my readouts are prolly accurate within +-2C

I'll buy that XP is more of a cycle muncher, but from graphics? That doesn't sound very plausible. I don't own XP and never will, but I can't imagine an OS so graphics intensive that the gtraphics suck up enough cycles to be noticed. It's probably some other feature that's doing it to you.
