Hi my brother gave me this game and I dont know anything about it. I have the MOD version of Halflife-Counterstrike ver 3.1 on disk and i think(?) I need to download the latest Halflife patch and the latest CS version(if i dont have it already) Can someone send me the link to the downloads please or tell me what i need to do.I want to play this game but dont know what im doing.lol. Ive read all about it and it looks cool but i cant get started. Please help!Ill quit begging now.lol. Thanks :)

There is no CS v3.1, if you have 1.3 (the lastest version) then your fine. You will also need to update halflife to version 1.1.0.8. this should help:

oh yeah, i dont like cs try playing DOD its alot better, or some return to castle wolfenstein. at least thats my opinion.

What does DOD stand for? Maybe Ill try it bc im not having any luck with the CS.
Heres my problem:(i am new at this so forgive my dumbness.lol)
ok...I have HalfLife-Counterstrike v 1.3 and its been burnt from the original so i installed it then downloaded the Halflife 1.1.0.8. Well now when i try to install Hallife 1.1.0.8 it says "you are attempting to install HL to an invalid directory you must install to the same directory where HL is installed.
Would someone please(pretty please) help me?

DOD = Day of Defeat. Its a WW2 game. I suggest getting Return to Castle Wolfenstien instead. (Same thing only better).
The default directory for halflife is C:\Sierra\Half-Life, so if you installed to that directory, then thats where you need to install CS.

oh MrBill thanks for coming to my rescue again.lol.I downloaded the HL patch from Morpheus and when I try to install it from there it says what file do you want yo put it in(or something like that)and it says c://Halflife/FAIL and then if i try putting it in any other folder it still says fail at the end of it. And Im not sure what im supposed to get when i download CS but when i put in the cd it installs and then i have the read me and install file and all the maps and things in the file,but shouldnt i have more? Im so lost.Sorry to be such a pain in the a** :) thanxs

Those error messages are a pain in the @$$, but if you keep trying it will eventually take. Just make sure you are telling it to install to \half-life dir. for example mine would be C:\Games\Half-Life. The default is {your drive letter}:Program Files\Sierra\half-Life.

If you've installed Half-Life and Counter-Strike, if you try and play Counter-Strike with an older version, it'll usually force you to upgrade, and give you a dialog box that has a list of servers to download from. Some servers you download and install from automatically, some you download it, and have to install it yourself. It's hit or miss as to which servers will work though.

I wouldnt get that sort of thing off morpheus, there are a lot of incomplete files that you could get that may just have a few KBs missing, but thats enough to make it useless. If you get it from a website its always complete, and theres less chance that some @$$hole patched a virus/trojan onto it. ;)
But thats most likely not your problem. :D

Sorry I didn't post a server like I said I would. My roommate ran into computer troubles, so I was fixing his box, and didn't even get a chance to touch mine last night.
putergirl, do you use any instat messengers? AIM, MSN, ICQ? If you do, I can get on this afternoon and walk you through a few things. If you've already installed Half-Life and Counter-Strike, they should automatically tell you to update. I know mine have. But when I get home, I'll get into Half-Life and Counter-Strike, and see what versions I have, and we can compare them to yours. Then we can find you a server if you need some updates.
Nice to see someone new Putergirl, hope you stick around. You will find that almost everyone will do their best to help. If we don't know the answer chances are we will find it. Over time you may see why alot of us have made this place our home. =)

are you trying to install the halflife patch or the entire halflife game? the mod version of CS requires you to have the full version of HL, then get the patch for hl, then add the CS mod, then patch CS.
so you should have (and install)
Half Life full game w/ cd key
latest HL patch
CS mod
CS patch (1.3)
or you can go to the store and pickup the CS retail version and save the hassle...
