Original install of OS got corrupted. Tried to reinstall and the ~6 month old Microsoft CD has corrupted. INSERT RANT! :bang head
And yes I've already contact MS. Anyone got an alternate legal solution?
Thanks.
Best bet would be to contact M$ and plead your case, as its illegal to download images like that ;)

Please edit the OP, can't make requests like that, against forum rules.
If your legit, its simple to get a disc sent to you.

Sorry will change but it ain't so simple. I've had to do it before and they aren't customer friend for OEM versions, always want a reasonable number of $s.

You said the original CD has corrupted? Well, stop right there. Corrupted? It's a CD.
Secondly, you could call MS and give them the little code on the inside ring of the PC....and have them send you a new one.
Thirdly, if it's only 6 months old, you could call the vendor.
But your original statement about he CD being corrupted leads me to believe there is more to this than you're stating. What exactly is the problem with the original CD?
Oh, and last but not least, if they give you any trouble, tell them you are going to start running Linux, and ask for a supervisor. ;)

Often times when reading from CD's and there are files which can't be accessed, you get messages explaining that the files are missing or corrupt... Assuming the disc is damaged, he probably received a message similar to this and had the terminology used still in mind.

Call it what you want when the files can't be read. The CD has been out of the packaging 3 times at most, original install, a previous repair and this time. Can't see any scratchs or other problems but three CD readers have the same problem.
Call the vendor? Its OEM, Neweqq points us directly at Microsoft.
There is nothing else going on. Not sure what you're thinking, you completely lost me there.
Thanks anyway folks. :)
Then if you want I will call newegg and hash out the situation with them, and take it as far up the Microsoft totem pole as I have to to get it resolved.. I have always found them to be reasonable, and will help in any way that I can. Send me any info you have via PM if I can help out.

After an hour plus on phone yesterday, the first round has been --- shall we say frustrating?
- Newegg (at least the customer service individual I got): read me the 30 days return statement for software. It is of course on-line and hard to argue with. Next she didn't know how or where to call M$.
- M$: Phone number I was initially given was the retail software number and they don't want anything to do with OEM. After four "service reps" and therefore four phone menus and an hour later I ended up at the OEM replacement "service rep." Initally after some discussion it appears that even if your software had only been out the sleve once (just an example here) they want $30 to replace a CD.
The score at this point. M$ user = zero (aka becoming poorer). :bang head
Maybe I'll spend a little time over at the alternate OS forum. That ain't a joke.
This is good reading for those of us purchasing OEM copies....should anything ever happen to our CDs. Thinking back I have only chased support on retail copies.....can't believe they want $30 for a CD. That's even worse than buying music CDs!

He probably was installing the op system and while it was installing the needed files for XP to load and to continue that alwful extra 35mins for it to finish. He probably got the error message CANNOT INSTALL XP AS THIS FILE IS DAMAGE OR CORRUPT.
Well something along those XP error lines I tried to install Home Edtion OEM on my mates old PC it gave him the very problem when is was extracting the SHELL32.DLL files off the disc. After much discussion about the problem I told him to buy a new hard drive he did and it installed perfectly.

Amazing, where did that come from? In a word, wrong.

Anything can happen, however if that is the case, it probably could have been solved by a low level format.
