ok, this is a very weird story but i need major help because right now my pc (with my new gfx card installed) cannot even boot into windows. ok i installed my graphics card on wednesday of this week and i had everything working great. That night i had also installed my new power supply (ocz modstream 450w) and i had everything working fine with that as well (except for i didnt have a few things hooked up: a cold cathode, some front lights on my case, but i would handle that the next morning).
so i woke up and my dad helped me go one by one and finish the power process. we turned off the psu each time we plugged something in and then started the pc to make sure the item was running correctly. we were almost finished and i was really happen when we plugged in my thermal display on the front of my case. we restarted the pc and for some reason after the windows xp home screen (with the three little scrolling bars) the screen went blank and i couldnt do anything but shut down improperly. i proceded that night to reformatt (thinking maybe some windows files got messed up or something) and everything was working fine...until i installed my gfx drivers.
after i installed the omega 5.7s i restarted and the same thing happened, blank screen after the windows xp home image. i thought maybe it was just a problem with my system and omega drivers so i booted into safe mode (worked fine) and reverted my system back a bit and then installed the official ati drivers. the same thing happened.
right now i have no idea what to do and the fact that i cannot get any graphics drivers onto my system without me not being able to boot into windows is ticking me off......i pretty much cant use my system for anything because i only have the basic windows graphics drivers running and they are soooooo sloooowwwwww. pls help me guys......ive run outta ideas and i dont know what to do. thanks :bang head
Trying unplugging things in the order you plugged them in. Maybe one of your components is causing the problem. Trying the last known good configuration of components will help you figure out which is the problem.
BTW, paragraphs work great.....when used.

sorry about the paragraphs thing man, anyways, i did try the last known good configuration and also did what you said yesterday morning. im thinking if it comes down to it, im gonna put in my 9800 again and see if i can get drivers working for it.......if i can then i must either be 1. doing something wrong with my new graphics card or 2. something messed up with the thing and i need to look into an RMA.
i just edited the first messages with paragraphs, sorry bout that.
EDIT: btw, i thought i would clear something up. im running my pc right now just fine, but im running with just basic windows graphics drivers. im gonna try and reinstall some other drivers and see if the same problem persists.
Are you completely uninstalling the old drivers? Try using Driver Cleaner 3 or something of that nature.
What about possible IRQ conflicts?

if i knew what an IRQ conflict was.......then maybe i could tell if i had one. can you pls explain what that is? also, i completely have the other drivers uninstalled because i completely reformatted. i deleted my partitions and created another and put windows on it. i mean, im so confused and irritated by this i dont understand.
i even tried installing the drivers right off the ati cd (probably fairly old) and the same thing happens: i get a blank screen right after the windows xp home edition picture with those three moving little bars. this has never happened before (not in the year ive had the pc and with my old 9800 either). im......so frustrated. does anyone else have any ideas?
How about looking into the motherboard agp drivers?
Ok, NM on the IRQ conflicts. As long as you had all your hardware in while doing the re-install of the OS, you should be fine there.
Motherboard AGP drivers would also be my next area of concern. Did you re-install those also, or get updated ones?

i give up, im gonna find some uber computer repair nerd to fix this. im so ticked right now i could screem.......so much for spending 345 dollars on my new hardware just to have nothing work right. thanks to the people that tried to help me.
EDIT: took my card and system to compusa (where i purchased my card) and got a replacement. everything works great now, something must've happened to the card and it was so messed up. anyways, got the brand new x800xl in here and reinstalling everything because i had reformmated.

ok now there is even almost a bigger issue. i got my new card up and running.......seems to be working fine. anyways so i installed the cat 5.7s and ran 3dmark05. on all the cpu tests i was getting 0 fps........it was so slow i dont even get it. also, on the other graphics test they also appeared to be going slower than usual. when i got my score it was 3860 (i got 4900 something with my old card when it worked)! i was like......somethings wrong. then i installed the omega 5.6s and got 3600 something. there isnt even a score that low in the futuremark directories with my system specs. now i dont know whats going on here but its very serious. does anyone have any ideas/suggestions.
Are you sure you put ALL the drivers back onto your system?

well i put in my old graphics card and it works fine.....i give up once again. im gonna try and return the card because there has to be some incompatibility with my system somehow.

ok last question and ill leave you guys in peace. i dont quite know why it would be so much lower but the first day i had my first card (i had around 9600 points in 03) but now i run it and i get around 8800 something. ok now my main question is this: why would my cpu tests run much smoother with my 9800 installed than with this x800xl installed? i mean in 03 and in 05 they chug so badly its crazy. at one point in trolls lair in cpu tests i was getting 0 fps. i NEVER got anywhere near that low with my 9800 installed. it seems where im losing all of my points is in the cpu tests but on both 03 and 05 they run much faster with my old 9800. its so weird, i mean if its truly a cpu test it should run the same no matter what card is installed. does anyone have any ideas of what i can do or what im doing thats making my score so much lower in the cpu tests?
I know nothing about amd cpu's, BUT how are the temps on the amd, and do amd cpu's have thermal throttling?

hmm dont know about the temps on the cpu, but the temps on the xl are great. after running 3dmark05 the whole way through my temps on the xl were around 52c. i have so many fans in this case its insane.
