I have recently upgraded my computer from SDRAM to DDR. The difference in some areas are great! At the moment I am running my 512Mb (2x256Mb) of Crucial DDR 2100 ram at 152FSB
This is pretty much the limit of my ram. I can hit about 155FSB but it becomes unstable after too much use. I have tried running at CAS 2-3-3 and windows is ok for 5-10 mins at 152FSB. I have also tried 3-2-2 and it is the same story. I cannot run at 2-2-2 as I just get a black screen.
My question is...
I am going to buy two lots of Tt RAM Heatspreaders for my ram. Will the heatspreaders allow me to hit 152Mhz @ CAS 2-3-3 or CAS 3-2-2?
I am unsure how good crucial DDR ram is rated but it is damn nice for the price.

Woohoo!
Upped my ram voltage from 2.5v to 2.8v and running at 152Mhz 8882622
SiSoft scores are 711 ALU 907 FPU
Me Happy!
Gonna buy those Tt heatspreaders l8r for safety anyway.

Running at 160MHz 8882622 Timings now. Very very fast indeed. Well into the 900s on FPU score now, wanted to break into Gb/s so i tried higher.
Went upto 170FSB @ 8882622 but windows didnt like it. I could probably get there with DDR @ 2.9v and those Tt heatspreaders but thats l8r. For now, Im running at 160FSB. I cannot push my system much more as it is not 100% stable. Ran cpu burn and it crashed after like 30mins. Upped voltage to 2.05v, I must be mad. Seems stable now though.
Temps have gone up q a bit too. Was at 41C Load now at 44C Load. Thats coz of voltage and new Enermax PSU's fan. The fan only spins at 1.6krpm at ambient temps.
ermm.. i put thermaltake heatspreaders on my samsung pc2100 at 148mhz at 2.7v, and didn't get a single mhz more from them. tried upping to 2.8v, but that didn't do much either. :( need some crucial ram myself.

Well i've tried a lot of things with this ram. It seems to handle any fsb I can throw at it. Even benchmarked my computer at nearly 180FSB and got some good sisoft benchies. It doesn't like 8882622 timings as much as I thought. 3DMark2k1, Red Faction and Tribes2 all crash to desktop after 20mins of gameplay.
Got my computer at 166Mhz FSB now. Could run at 168Mhz but wanted 100% stability. Cant crash it even if i try now. Over 30mins of burnin test and comp still works.
I felt ram and noticed that it doesnt get very hot. BUT, I will still buy the Tt heatspreaders because it hypes the ram up and makes it easier to sell when I upgrade. Last ram I had that had Tt heatspreaders on sold damn quick. Ones w/o took longer.

CAS 2-3-3 what exactly is this . i know is has to do with the cas on our ram. is it a change that has to due with overclocking. how do u change this info is it just the voltage to the ram say like 2.7v instaed of 2.5?

DDR RAM Timings and voltage settings are very different to SDRAM Timings and voltage settings.
DDR RAM Timings are normally 8ns 8ns 8ns 3ns 7ns 2.5ns 3ns. Default voltage is set at 2.5v, but boards go right upto 2.9v. I run my ram at 2.9v to get the seriously high overclocks I get.
SDRAM Timings are normally 3ns 3ns 3ns. Voltage adjustments are not possable. This makes overclocking harder.
Im not entirely sure what all the timings mean. They include...
PH (Dunno what this is)
Idle (Idle time before next cycle)
TRAP (Dunno what this is either)
RAS (Row Address Strobe)
CAS (Column Address Strobe)
TRAS (Dunno what this is)
Cant remember the other 2 timing types. Anyone care to correct me? Im fairly new to DDR.
