Hi Guys

I hope some one can help me - I'm not very good with setting up PC's

I have just purchased an AMD T'bird 1.4Ghz 266FSB processor

And I don't know how to set up my mobo for it - mobo is an ABIT KT7A Raid

I would appreciate if some one could let me know what settings I need for the CMOS as I am a bit of a thicky as far as this is concerned - or point me in the direction for the info.

Cheers

Colcas

Welcome to the Forums!!! The very first thing you need to do is to flash the BIOS with the 3R BIOS (ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/bios/kt7/kt73r.exe) or the 4A BIOS (ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/bios/kt7/kt74a.exe) if the version of the MoBo is 1.2 or below. Version 1.3 & up should use the 3N BIOS (ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/bios/kt7s/kt7s3n.exe) or the 4T BIOS (ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/bios/kt7s/kt7s4t.exe). Do you know how to flash the BIOS? If not you can go here (http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kt7/faqbios.html) & read as much as you can. I use the 3R personaly & I'm completely happy with it. After you flash check back with me & maybe I can help you some more. Go the user cp & create a sig with your system specs so we know how to better help you.

I hope it's stable;) ABIT said you needed the BIOS versions I mentioned to run reliably at 1.4GHz and up. The stock BIOS doesn't usually let you run higher than 1.2GHz.

I understand what you mean - everything seems ok and stable at the moment -

and as ABIT say 'don't change the Bios unless you have a problem'

So I will give it a good try out - I am using the 'User Defined' settings for the processor -

It was only the fact that there wasn't a pre set value for the 1.4Gig processor - which would have made life a little bit easier - but as all of my info on the mobo stated - it would support a faster processor but would have to use the 'User Defined' settings as when I bought the mobo even the 1.2Gig wasn't out commercially but the preset settings were already in for up to 1.25Gig

So I will give it a good try out - once again thanx for the help

Cheers

Good to hear. If you got a SoundBlaster in that system then you might want to upgrade the BIOS but the new ones do not have the HLT commands that keep the CPU cool during idle so you would want to use something like WPCREDIT & WPCRSET to get it cool at idle again. Well if it's stable "FIX IT" like I always say:D :D :D
