I just bought this Gateway 506GR.

I opened and see that it only have one IDE slot for the DVD drives.

I however has 4 SATA slots - 1 is being use with the main HDD. I'm having two addition 120 GB IDE HDDs.

I know that I'd need to buy the converters (ebay?) to connect to the back of my IDE drives.

But my main concern is how to set it up. Though there're 4 slots, with 3 are available. Should i just plug in those two Hdds simple as that or is there some configuration that I'd have to do. The BIOS only allows to set those for Enhance or Legacy mode???

Thanks everyone.

Sorry that I made it so confusing.

Mobo has: 4 SATA slots. 1 is being used with my 200GB SATA drive

I Have: 2 x 120GB IDE drives.

Want: to use those two IDE drives in this mobo, which can only accept SATA drives. I'd need the adapter to put on the back of my IDE drives and convert them to SATA so I can use with my SATA slots on my mobo.

The question is that do I need to do any jumper settings like how we used to on IDe like Primary master, Primary slave, secondary master, secondary slave? Or they're simple plug and play?

And yes, I'm a n00b at SATA :(

Thanks

That's the beauty of SATA, each channel is independent...........no configuring of Master/Slave. Just set each IDE HD that's on a converter to Master so the converter recognizes it correctly and plug it into whatever SATA port you desire. To boot from the different SATA ports, you'll see in BIOS they should be labelled SATA 1,2,3, 4, etc.

yes if your using all sata than in your bios you should set the sata drive with windows installed to Boot before all other sata drives.

thanks, that solves the problem.

Also, last question, would any converter work for me (regardless of brand) like Ebay's ones?

Thanks again guys.

I don't really like Ebay.. You should be able to get a cable converter at newegg or some other popular website.
