A buddy of mine gave me his 286 CPU. (I laughed so hard)
And its written on it 1982! AFAIK, the 80286 weren't out yet... Am I correct?
Written on chip:
SIMENS
SAB 80286-12-N
S-2140989
Intel '82
Australia
Now why is it specified '82?

I thought they were released in '84.
So that is odd

You might find this interesting. It's shown smaller here (http://www.intel.com/intel/museum/25anniv/hof/286.htm) with the caption "1982: 286 Microprocessor".

I geuss there were released in 82, but I'm still pretty sure the geneal public couldn't get their hands on em till 84. I've done reading on this a while ago.

You're probably right. I'll bet that "powerful" 12MHz chip was used only in business/engineering apps for a couple of years before it moved into the high-end home market.

It could be the date for the copyright, or something like that.
