I was thinking about upgrading the mamory of my PC to 512Mb. But DDR333 is more expensive then DDR400 at the moment.
If I get a stick of 256Mb DDR400, it will run at 333MHz?

Yes, as long as it's not DDR2.

No.

The RAM will just lower it's timings to match the stick with the most relaxed timnigs.

Sort of. The stick of DDR400 will downclock to DDR333 and the timings will also be ran at the current sticks default SPD timings. If you get DDR400 ram, you may not be able to run it properly because the timings may be too different from the other stick. But you'll probably be fine. Also, for anyone that is wondering, you cannot run one stick at DDR333 and the other at DDR400 simulateneously.

The memory in my system is "DDR400" but I run it at 333 because that's all my Tbred-B 2700+ will support. Not sure where apu318 gets the idea that it shouldn't.

If your board supports DDR400 you can run the memory in assyncronism. Mine supports DDR400 at 400MHz only with the FSB at 266. But officialy VIA KT400 does not support DDR400

Regardless of the option it is set to in the bios, the ram will not run faster than your fsb. And btw, I said that you cannot run two dimms at two different speeds at the same time. i.e. 512mb stick in slot 1 @ DDR400 and 256mb stick in slot 2 @ DDR333.
