Hard Drive help

Is it possible to run one sata drive off each channel (promise and intel) I was doing some reading and it looks like the promise controller may support ncq. Being unaware of this before I thought I would try it out. One of my sata drives support ncq. But I am having absolutely no luck in getting the drives to work off the promise controller
