Hi,
I got 2 BFG 6800GT's in SLI and top top one is running really hot at 62C idle, the lower one is running at 56C Idle, I think thats alot of difference and then Im gaming, the top one goes up to 78C the bottom card goes up to 65C.
Before when I had one 6800GT it ran at 55C idle. Now that its in SLI its super hot.
Is this normal?
Im a noob to SLI, and I have heard that you should plug in your monitor on the bottom vid card not the top, but my monitor only works on the top video card. (with a Dell 24in)
They are both on stock air cooling...DFI NF4 mobo, AMD X2 4400. 2GB RAM
hmmm id try putting a fan or multiple fans around/infront of the card
Seems like somethings wrong with the top card for temperature differences like that- Mabey a bad heatsink application from the factory?

Well the top card is not getting as much fresh air as the bottom one. Think about how it is right above the over card that is producing heat. You have the top card that is recirculating its own hot air which makes it that much hotter. Putting a fan that blows across it or onto it should help this out a lot.

Thanks for the welcome.
I actually do have a 90mm fan sitting on the bottom of the case blowing at the bottom card and a little bit at the top card.
When I touch the pastic hold down plate on the back of each card, I notice the difference. The bottom one is actaully cool to the touch while the top one is really warm.
I just put a stack of post it notes on the bottom of the fan so it is level with the top card instead of the bottom card...we'll see if that helps.

Where are you getting that from? Pulling conclusions out of the air? :
You really can't burn your finger with 70C. You have enough reaction time to pull your finger off and realize that it is hot.

He might have burnt it on the stove and his way of telling us wasn't as subtle as vit should have been.
May I reccomend some lotion to soothe pain?

My sli setup runs hot, but not as hot as yours apparently. There is a temp difference between gpu1 and 2, the second one is colder by about 4C. Try putting a case fan on the side panel to get some of that hot air out, or get a fan that blows air out a pci slot and see it that cools down your temps.

You cards are prob. thermal throttling...like mine were. Sufficient cooling is what is needed such as a PCI slot cooler, more fans, or WCing.
Thermal Throttling goes into detail in this thread: http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=3818588&postcount=3
Your video cards might be in danger if they keep heating up like this.

It grabbed my attention too.
You can cut a hole or 2 in the side pannel and have the fans blowing right over the cards.
