I don't know how many of you shop online at Amazon.com. I occassionally do, because a) there's no tax for me, and b) shipping is usually free.
I hadn't logged in for a while, and the last time I did, I noticed the "Gold Box" promotions they used to run weren't being done anymore. Didn't really bother me, as 90% of the time it was kitchen cutlery and blenders, it seemed like.
But I logged back in earlier this week and found that the Gold Box was back. Not only that, but when I went to view it, everything it offered me was something I'd likely have some interest in - flash storage cards, programming books, camera cases, etc. Also, you can now "Save" one deal while you look ahead to the next, so you don't totally screw yourself missing something you kinda want if it turns out none of the next deals are anything good.
The Gold Box is now tied in with your wish list and browsing habits. So I went into my wishlist, unchecked the boxes next to all the books I wanted that tie them into Amazon's tracking of interests for your Gold Box, and proceeded to go to Amazon every day for three days and pull up Canon's SD400 (though I never added it to my wishlist). Amazon.com's price was one of the cheapest on Pricegrabber at $340 shipped. Butterflyphoto.com had it for $327 shipped, which was the cheapest I found anywhere.
After three days of looking at the item on Amazon, it appeared in my Gold Box today for $305 shipped, just over $33 off the normal price and cheaper than anywhere else I've found. I applied a $25 off coupon I happened to have lying around and got it for a total of $280 shipped to my door.
So, long story short - if you're willing to take a little time every day, you can save yourself a good little bit of money on the items you actually WANT instead of just waiting around for deals or stumbling across them and buying on a whim.
And of course, Amazon.com's Visa gets you $30 off your first purchase with Amazon, and I've got a buddy who runs a $30 promotion for a company that sends you back a $60 Amazon certificate - so if you put in a little legwork and get savings like that, you can rack up $90 off an item like this, which is a hefty chunk!
Just thought I would pass that along in case others haven't look at the new Gold Box, because it's really worth a shot sometimes if you're looking for a deal on something specific. =)
