Im thinking about getting either a 7800 gtx or a 7800 gt and i was wondering whats the big difference in the two videocards. I know the 7800gtx has 24 pipes and i think the 7800 has 20, but does that make a big difference and if i bought a 7800 gt could i overclock it to make just as fast as a 7800 gtx.

There is an extensive review of this card on www.anandtech.com they compare it to the GTX and 6800 Ultra

The performance difference is minor. They are both great cards. If you have money to burn the 7800GTX will give you a few more FPS, but otherwise I would opt for the 7800GT as a better bargain.

I think it's a mistake to buy a 7800GT when a 7800GTX can be had for as little as $479. Though the performance difference isn't as apparent now because most of our systems are CPU limited, future titles, and faster CPU's will reveal the advantage the GTX carries, and for $50 more it's going to make the GT look as overpriced as it is.

hmm i see where your comming from :)
but how long until there are cpu's that can take full advantage of a 7800gtx? By the time they come out there will be bigger, faster, more powerful cards out for the $$$
i dont think there's cpu's out now that can take full advantage of a 6800ultra!
or am i wrong?

also the difference isnt $50... its more like $150
you can get the gtx from dell for $500ish while you can get the GT for $331!

Honestly how much frames would you need over the GT? Seriously?

Well, to keep my 2005FPW happy it's nice to have the muscle to run games at 1680x1050 with the settings turned up. Antialiasing and filtering make real noticable difference in games like Battlefield 2 as well. With the current price difference being less than a $100, it'll prove foolish in hindsight to buy a 7800GT vs. a GTX.
