Ok, just a real real quick thought upon the Leadtek 6800GT that I got today: The heatsink is too damned big!

Just a few minutes ago, I was about to cry, because this brand new video card was showing artifacts on my screen. I was so sure that it had died on me. Turns out the heatsink is pulling it down. I cant even screw this thing in. WTF should I do? I dont want something to happen and it get fried.

i like the big stock heatsink...good cooling :)

but i didn't have any problems with it being too heavy, it's held in fine in my pc

why can't you screw it in?

i've got no problems with the exact same setup.

make sure the card locks and the m/b sits straight in the case.

I put the card into the mobo, it locks with the AGP lock, and hangs down. When I screw it in, it will start going fine, but as the threads get closer in, it will start pushing the card down, cause it wont hold it self up.

I am also going to have to reconfigure my comp layout until I can get its waterblock, because it seems to be overheating. Since it hangs down, its fan is pressed basically right against my soundcard, and the airflow its getting is horrible.

yeah!!
Take with ur hand hold the card bracket up hard as you can and tighten the screw! It can be tricky but you can do it!

something is not right. i'd say you might want to take the motherboard out and re-sit it. while at it, check if some part of the case is bent and motherboard tray is flat. some cases have problems fitting the outside cover of the extention cards inside, check if something is interfering.

well how far off is it... can you show us a picture. I deffinatly wouldn't run it without the video card securly fasten to the case.

do other video cards fit in there fine?

ya, all other cards (video included) fit fine, its just this one that is causing me issues. I am very relucant to keep starting my computer, and deviated from my norm and turned it off when I left this morning. As for the 'holding it up while screwing it in', thats a really bad idea. As with the basis of dont force a card in, it applies when securing them. If a piece of electronic is not working how it should, you don't force it, under any circumstances.

Also, the card is not off. The metal bracket is against the case, its just that the heatsink is pulling down the screw hole. When I hold it up gently and start screwing a screw in, it will start to tighten about half way, but when I go to secure the screw, the card starts forcing itself down the farther I screw in.

my 9800 pro was like that... its because you have a cheap case

when i got my antec case the problem was gone.

Cheap case? Unlikely. Chieftec Full (the real 6 bay one) Tower.

So do other cards fit in it fine... can you give us a picture or an estimate on how far off the card is?

Like somebody else suggested, hold it in when you're screwing it...it isn't forcing it if it's just being pulled down by it's weight

You can also always put your case sideways while screwing it in :p

hmmm.

maybe you just got a warped metal bracket :eh?:

I already made sure it was straight, but I will go and check again, try bending it slightly to see if it just needs adjustment.

A quick question, does anybody have any experience with watercooling this? Wanting to, but am unsure about the actual setup, what else would be required besides the waterblock, etc etc.

Ok, I have figured out that it is something to do with the weight of the card. In order for it to run properly, I have to hold the card up slightly. Right now, im having to run my comp with it on the side, so the card wont slide down. It is also securely held in the bracket by a large thumb screw.

It's obvious something is amiss, I have the leadtek 68gt, I set it, Held it up while I screwed in the slot bracket and it is solid as can be, No dropping because of the heft of the card. Couldn't tell you what your issue is, However I don't think the card being overly heavy is the culprit.

Tried it on another comp, and it does the same, so im going to have to do a few more tests. Test it in a comp that was known to be working previously with it before.

Well, its totally dead. Wont even show a picture anymore. Anybody have any idea how good Leadtek is about RMAs?
