the 7800 GTX IS the Ultra. Nvidia is ditching the Ultra monicker, and just adding an X at the end to show the new Ultras :)

the ultra is suposed to come out when ATI's R520 comes out, so who know when that will happen since ATI has been having so many problems getting enough cards to actualy run at the speed they are suposed to.

It used to be, but nvidia changed their mind again and there WILL be an ultra version, and its supposed to come out after the r520 and will basically be a supercharged GTX.

ya if your worried about a new card coming out right away then get an evga and if something bigger and better comes out within 90 days you can use the step up program......

some of the gtx's can be had for under $500, but i do agree that the price of the Ultra will be $700-$800. ;)

last i heard the ultra will sport 512mb ram, beefier clocks, and still a one slot cooling solution.

I thought the GTX was the Ultra.

Such as:
7800GTX
7800GT
7800

You might have a point there though, because if they add an regular 7800 to the brand, it might be worse then the 6800GT Ultras, which is probably natural because the 6800GT Ultras are expensive.

OR

They might do it like how they did the 6800 line, for example, they have 6800GT Ultras at 256mb and some at 512mb, so they might just make the future 7800GTXs at 512mb.

All you need to do is go to www.theinquirer.net if you have questions about this. Anadtech, INQ, and many other review sites have stated what the ultra will be. It will not be 90nm, it will still be 110nm; It will be clocked at 500+mhz core, will be 32 pipes, and will probably come out around december or early 06, but more than likely after the R520.

It was thought, before the release of the GTX, that the GTX was the ultra. But before the initial release, nVidia released the info of a higher end car than the GTX, and were going to use it if ATI came back to hard with the R520.

Who knows, maybe it is just a thought up pipe dream that we have twisted into being reality. But as far as the "TOP" review sites are saying, there will be an ultra.

I don't think it's a dream we made up as the new quadro's have 32 pipes...so i'm sure the Ultra will be =)
