Can we rename this forum "BOINC Teams and/or include forums for the other OC teams like Climateprediction.net, Protein Predictor@home, LHC@home, Einstein@home, etc in the "Teams" forum? I've been using SETI for almost 3 years, and it's great, but there are more projects on BOINC. We have a team for each of them, so they should each have their own forum in the OC forums, right?

Maybe the mods will put up a "sticky thread" for the other teams.

I know Einstein is running great and approaching the 2 million milestone.

There was a huge thread and poll on exactly this subject. The decision based on the poll was to revisit the issue once SETI Classic has shut down - and to leave the forum title alone for the time being.

In practice, this IS the "all boinc projects" forum - as evidenced by a simple scan of all the posts.

Given the fact that Boinc will soon include Folding - it seems fitting that the entire forum be rearranged such that all of this falls under a "distributed compuitng" section with some appropriate sub-sections.

That's nice to hear. I've always kind of wanted to participate in folding also, but didn't want to have to juggle two programs.

As for merging all distribute computing into a single section, I have heard some voices over that one that are not that happy about this idea. Many thik that this one program to rule them all is a cope to rmeove some of their identity.

If we are going that way, we would consult you all and a community consensus will have to be reached to do a move like this. This way many people won't see this as a coop to remove their identity :D

Actually, the poll ended up tied and I was supposed to start a new one. However, Berkeley was giving several indications that Classic was in the process of being shut down (just after the poll closed, the setiathome.berkeley.edu domain was redirected to the BOINC site IIRC) so I decided that I'd bring it up again after Classic officially ended (which was one of the two tied options).

As Enkidu says though, while this may be named the "SETI Team", it's definatly the forum for all BOINC and Classic related threads.

after Classic officially ended

That could be a while, meanwhile lots of worthwhile things are happening in the other categories.

Why not ask the mods to gives us a non-Seti BOINC?

That was one of the poll options - ultimately voted down I believe (I'm having browser problems, can't seem to get a search of the forum to find that thread to work, but its around somewhere).

I'm still for just one big BOINC forum.

How often do we really have topics discussing just one project?

Best to keep as much traffic as possible in one big BOINC forum, then a few posts a week in several individual project sub forums. Its not like were seeing a 100 posts a day in this section, so its not to much time to sort out SETI or Einstein posts. As long as the person posting the message makes sure to include what project there talking about.

The fact is that SETI is still the dominant project of BOINC (particularly for this site) and for good reason... lots of people crunched classic (and still do?). The other projects have very few OCF members who are signed up for them for much other than to kill time when SETI goes down. Thats fine, no criticism here.

I personally went to pick SETI back up a couple weeks ago and got really annoyed when after 4 days of crunching with 3 rigs I only had 64 credits. :) Well I switched to Einstein due to my impatience, now 10k credits and 12 days later, I think I'll atleast dedicate my rigs to Einstein untill I hit 100k. :)

There's been a lot of disccusion about subforums in other part of these great site. One that was noted was the one about motherboards. Many of the users believed that some subforums where not getting enough traffic to justify their existance.

I believe that currently all people that know about it, surf in the SETI forums to get their questions answered about any project besides SETI but involved in the BOINC platform.

Ultimatly we could generate a single forum dedicated to BOINC with subforums, but I think that would fracture this great community, as many people will not be surfing thrue all the subforums and a lot of moving will be needed as some users won't be posting in the right forum :D

I think that the decition reached when the poll was made was that when SETI@Home classic went offline, we will be changing the forum name to BOINC.

The two tying poll options (the poll is available here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=373714&highlight=poll)) were to leave things as-is until classic finally shuts down and then change this forum's name, or to create an "Other BOINC Teams" section. Personally I'm for one big SETI & Other BOINC Projects forum since SETI threads aren't exactly being drowned out by everything else, but that's neither here nor there. :D

If you guys want I can run a tiebreaker poll to decide what we're going to do right now, or I can wait until classic does eventually die to run it (the poll would essentially turn into "do you want to just change the name, or make a BOINC-specific forum in addition to this one?")
