I am seeing some really good deals on ATI x800/x850 cards right now, presumably because Crossfire and the 520 cores are coming. Does anyone expect the prices to drop more or should I jump on one of these deals while I have the chance?

I want to upgrade to something that will work with Crossfire down the road (x700 Pro won't). I'm just not sure if I should get an X800/X850 with the deals now (will be the Crossfire slave) or wait and buy the Crossfire master when they are released and then get a slave later.

Thoughts?

just wait as long as possible. i am still holding onto my 9600XT256mb. for a bit longer. Waiting for some good Crossfire mobo's to get to a decent price.

I am planning on keeping my current mobo. The Crossfire cards should eventually (or immediately) work on the the 955X chipsets.

I kind of want to wait, but don't want to miss out on a decent deal on a x800/x850 because of it...that's my whole issue ;) I'll need a standard card to run as a slave to the Crossfire Edition (master) card, so I was just curious if people think the prices of the standard (non-Crossfire Editions) will stay where they are at or drop after the Crossfire Editions and/or R520s are released (presumably sometime this month).

I think you may see more of a price drop in the next couple of weeks just to make the cards more appealing to someone who otherwise would just go ahead and pull the trigger on a 7800gt. I would imagine after the initial release cools off you will see a similiar pattern with the 78gt's price dropping just like what happened with the Gtx, Ati needs to drop also if they hope to sell some of their higher end cards. At least that would be my guess.

Yeah, I guess I will hold out and see what happens. Maybe there will be some two-card combo deals for Crossfire or something ;) I can't really complain about my x700 Pro...I hit 25K in 3DMark01 this week :D
