View Full Version : 266 Fsb?
I'm looking at buying a new cpu i have noticed where there are 1.4 Athlon that say 266 FSB. I have a k7pro that supports 266 FSB. I reading the forums I seen ppl over clocking there FSB to 160-170 ... so is it a true 266 FSB? or is that the most it can be clocked too? can some one help me out here :)

ok, well 266 FSB is the DDR FSB... its actually "only" 133 but behaves like a 266FSB... so someone overclocking to 170FSB is actually reaching 340 MHZ FSB DDR. Hope thats cleared it up for you, and welcome to the forums!
yes it did thanks .. and saved me alot of time looking for the 266 fsb chip :)

This is wrong as you can run an AMD 266mhz FSB CPU on a NON-DDR motherboard... The 266 mhz refers to the internal speed of the CPU which is a double pumped 133 mhz FSB (133 x 2 = 266 ) likewise the 200 mhz FSB CPU is also internal double pumped but runs on a FSB of 100 mhz.
ok so not all 1.4 Athlon are 266? and how can I tell the deference ?

I believe that all 1.4's are 266, but each CPU has codes on the core which gives out specific information which is pictured below

As a matter of interest through out this forum you will see mentions of AXIA and AVIA among other names, these refer to particular codes on the CPU which will give some kind of indication as to how well that CPU will overclock. Have a look on the CPU database on the front of overclockers.com for a indication as to the best 1.4 codes.
