View Full Version : USB Flash drive not recognized
I've come across an odd problem. I recently got a USB flash drive, which XP's Windows Explorer or My Computer won't recognize. It is easily seen in 2K, and in the XP Disk Management section of Administrative Tools, where it was formatted. Any suggestions?
Bad usb port/s? Do you have another USB device to try?
Tried it on a 4-port hub, mobo 2.0 hub, and a PCI add-on card.
They will use only available drive letters up to H(or maybe F), I think. So if you have a couple CD-ROms and a couple partitions, it will not be mapped a drive letter. An easier solution is to force Disk Mgmt. to make it B drive. At least, this is one possibility

Mine is seen as drive G:

Then it must be H. I know here at work someone called and had 2 Cd-ROms, D & E, then network drives started at F, G, H, etc... So I go into Disk Mgmt. and it's listed as F, but network drives take priority, so had to change it to B
What flash drive do you have? Do you have USB support enabled in XP? Does any other USB device work on that system?

Switching it to B: did the trick. Due to CDs, card readers, SCSI drives, it was shown in Disk management as P:
