hi bros/sis,

I need all fellows expertise to help me to overcome my problem of my CPU. I've a P4 3.8 LGA775 CPU, but the front surface has some minor scratches and stains.

How can i do to remove those stains and scratches ? I tried using turpentine to remove those stains and scratches but to no avail.

Hope OC forum bros and sis can advise me on this matter.....

The most commonly used cleaning solution around here is 99% isopropyl alcohol. It dries/evaporates very quickly and doesn't leave any residue. Try using some Q-Tips soaked in a little bit of the 99% isopropyl alcohol. If you can't find 99%, just use the highest purity you can get your hands on (I've also used 95% just fine). The alcohol will probably help to get the "stains" out but if the scratches are in the IHS (integrated heat spreader) material then no ammount of cleaning is gonna get those out. You would have to lap the surface of your CPU IHS and that is very risky business. What heatsink are you using? What thermal interface material are you using?

heck, i use 80% rubbing alcohol.. just make sure you wait a bit longer for it to dry as 20% of it is water :)

if the scratches are deep, then to get rid of them, you'd have to lap the cpu. :bang head

use a little extra AS5 to be sure it fills scratch lines and gets proper contact for heat dispersion.---------Much less risky, but cooling performance may suffer

Lap your cpu to remove scratches-----------Much more risky, as you can damage CPU, or lap it unevenly resulting in bad contact between your cpu and HS equaling higher temps than just leaving the scratches.

Your risk, your choice.
