http://www.techspot.com/news/18371-nVidia-Lowers-GeForce-6800-Prices.html

None of the retailers have dropped prices just yet, but it's official. The 6800GT will be $199 and the 6800 Ultra will be $299. There's your new midrange line-up right there. I would assume the regular 6800 and 6600's will drop signficantly as well. I guess I'll be buying a 6800GT pretty soon. Sucks if you just bought a new card recently.

The URL above links to -> http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20050815202521.html

which says that the prices will be $399 for 6800U and $299 for 6800GT...

so why does the Techspot article say $299 for 6800U and $199 for 6800GT?

Which is right?

I'm interested in this as well. If the 6800GT's drop to 199, my 5200 is going to go to the dumpster.

I think the xbitlabs.com one is the old prices.

What will happend to the prices of the rest of the cards?
The 6800gt is going to 199, 6800 is at 199, 6600gt is a little less than that, the list goes on down the line.
I think we're going to see some sweet prices once these take effect.

I am crossing my fingers for a price war. I think we need a good drop in hardware prices. Seems like they were doing pretty good for a few months then they went out the roof. Now the drops are back in video. I like this. My 6600GT needs to be replaced already.

Yep this is good news, but if the 6800GT will be 299$ the X800XL will still be better value but if it will be 199$ and 6800U for 299$ thats just going to kick ass.

I thought the 6800GTs were always $299.....the eVGA 6800GT is $298 at Monarch.

Well, 6800GTs at $199 would more or less phase out the 6600 line, both GT and regular class. The 6600GTs go for around $50, and why not spend an extra $50 for a much better video card. Actually, you can build a AGP system for a much better price now, you can get a FX-57 and 6800GT and other components for about $1500 actually.

Considering you can get a 6800GT for $267, the Xbit Labs article makes no sense. They've been $299 and under for quite a while now.

If it is true, things are definatly looking up for my future system :D The stupid video card was one area I'm way over-budget so a nice price cut should solve a few problems.

If this is true I will never buy another Nvidia product again, I bought a 6800GT when they first came out and I've never seen a piece of hardware drop so dramatically in value over such a short period of time.

My 9500 PRO heald its value (actually went up in value!) for over 2 years.

Well the 6800GT is priced at 299$ making the X800XL a better value...as I said, too good to me true.

Check your options again, for 250$ you can score a X800XL that beats the 6800GT by a hair.

250$ would not be cheaper if there is a 100$ price cut on the GTs i would take a 6800GT over a 800XL anyway but thats just me

The new 6800GT price is 299$ and the X800XL is 250$, I'm not anyones fanboy but its simply better value.

Oh, I saw in the first post about the GT being 199$, sounded too good to be true, and yes the 800XL is a cheaper video card.

i have been saying that alot lately - all these places saying 6800 Gt's now $299 when i have been seeing them for between $250 - $300 for about 2 months now.

Perhaps Techspot is just wrong. I haven't seen any price change. I just posted it because I thought it would be of interest.
