Is it for all games, or just for some games? I know I had trouble getting Tenchu 2 to work on mine... Yet it worked fine on my old PSX. Never managed to get it to work, sadly =/

i can get ANY PS2 game to work, but no ps1 ones, and mind you these disks are in perfect condition, they are from the same friend, and he keeps his stuff perfect

Certain ps1 games won't work on ps2 and are you sure they are original games? How many dif games did you try?

It might be an issue with the read head on the PS2. It might not be calabrated correctly, just like it won't play some music CD's and some DVD's due to the head be incorrectly positioned.

I think you may have to adjust CD voltage on the laser. If it reads PS2 games fine, tell me one thing. Are all of those PS2 games on a DVD? Or a CD?

You guys are on the right track. Your "friend" snookered you Shard. You are falling victim to the infamous dying PS2 laser and tracker that I so adamantly harp about on this forum. The PS1 discs aren't working because they have the dark colored backs and you'll notice that soon if not already the older PS2 discs with the dark blue backs will not work as well. Eventually the whole thing will just crap out. The reason for this is because the tracker has got out of whack and the laser is not strong enough to read through the darker discs any longer. My suggestion is to demand your money back from your "friend" and buy a new PS2. They are also as much to repair as to buy a new one, you can buy the parts but it is a difficult and fragile process to repair. Most people get rid of their old ones for this reason and dummies at GameStop, EB etc.....have a ton of them on the shelves. If you REALLY want a PS2, spend a bit more on a new one or buy the stupid 2year replacement warranty on a used one from an EB, GameStop etc...... Oh, and make sure you scratch one more person off of your "friend" list. Let me know if you need anything else, buddy.

I've unfortunately been VICTIM to it 3x on the PS1 and 3X on the PS2.

whoa, he didnt rip me off, today i was going to take it to him and see if he knew what the hell is going on. and he said if i want the money back, then no problem, he is going to give it back. trust me, he is a very good friend, and things sometimes happen, he had no idea at all. but yeah i will tell him what you have told me. but dont worry about me, this was just a simple mistake =/

Cool, he is a friend indeed then. Sucks that he gets a broken PS2 back though.
