hi.
im one week w2k pro user now - i cant find where i should go to disable the loading at startup of my c-media mixer once it gives me no option for that. on w98se there was a system utility into the system info where i used to disable the entry to load the mixer; now i have no idea how to proceed with that.
thanks.

lots of way to do this most all gone over in prev posts. I use this free prog: http://www.tfi-technology.com/startstop.htm

it is the best i have found. note: i disable the options\run at start up for the program itself ,and just launch it from my program files to check my reg. every now and then i am suprised with something that has weeded its way in

Only in the registry I'm afraid.

Probably the single biggest drawback I've had with Win2K.

I use Xteq Systems XSetup for all kinds of tweaks, including that one.http://www.xteq.com/

hey that prog i linked to is simple try it, , it just links to and displays your reg runsys/runonce/runex and gives you edit checkbox options. just click on disable or delete or askbefore running, it dosent load itself at start up if you dont want and 2k or any win will run it without any dif, except you have a gui to your startup reg entries that you just click to see and edit. really, try it

If you have WIN 98 or WIN ME installed on another computer you can copy the MSCONFIG utility onto a floppy and put it into WIN2K. I did it and it works great.

you all r surely teaching me here but i still cant beleive its not possible to manage that using windows resources (other than manually edit the registry).
ill spend sometime looking for a way to do it.
anyway its highly possible the registry be the only way - just like the cd-rom auto-insert notification: microsoft has "perhaps" moved the ability to a registry edit http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/images/icons/icon13.gif.

Win2K follows NT 4.0 design more than Win98 in this aspect. NT 4.0 had to be almost entirely configured within the registry and Win2K follows suit.

It just happens to have a shell more similar to Win98 but that's about it.

Many things can be turned off or set to manual in the Services menu. I also had an E Mail from the techzone.com. They have msconfig posted there taken from Windows XP that has been modified to work with Win2K. I tried it and it works....Don't know how they get the file past Microsoft without problems??
