I'ts a good thing i noticed this in time!
88°C now if burnin's do anything you'll surly know it , I like those RPM's for your fan there you might want to kick up the voltage or something it looks like its blowing a little easy.
 When my fan shut off I got my cpu all the way up to 70°C before it got turned off.
You're burning up man. If it was me the power would have been turned off so fast. How did you have the time to do a screen grab? Did the chip survive. What chip? And finally Didn't you get any lockups? If the worst happened you have my condolences

is it a funky mobo temp sensor or did it really get that hot? and if so, is it still running like it should?

I'd wager a bad sensor...that's way over the limit (yes i know amd says otherwise)

well no its not a fualty reading it is now at 45c. like its supposed to be.
Well I was at my computer and I thought I smelt something burning, but thought that it was probably just something in the kitchen. but for some reason that reminded me to check my temps. at first i thought "faulty reading" since i hadn't even checked my temps from moving over to windows xp and thought there was probabl'y some icombatabilty that was why my temps were messed up. just to make sure, i checked to see if everything was fine in my case. well the fan plug was loose and it had fallen out !!!! !!
I quickl'y ran it at 12v (it was at 5v) and grabbed a large house fan that was luckly near by and ran it at full speed. (lucky for me it was at night so it was cool in the room since i leave the windows open) well about 1min later i was back at about 50c and i started breathing again. the temp sensor is only about 2c off (i have a thermister that i used to have right next to the cpu die, and the was little diffrences, the on bord sensor was usally lower)
So, my cpu has survived!! how long was this like for? no telling i only have a duron 600 so it could of bean as long as an hour or more, i really don't know. oh and the fan speed is my psu.
WHAT A WAY TO GET MY 1000 POST ! :)
Congrats on the 1gig posts, and even more:
CONGRATS ON SAVING THE CHIP!
That was way too close.

thanks,
I'm surprised that my computer didn't even lock up.
Boy, i sure hope something like this doesn't happen again.
my chip locks up around 50-55C so I don't believe the 88C reading what did other programs read sometimes weird stuff happens like my fan speed being 134353434343423234rpm and sh#t like that.

Well when started my fans up again the temp went back to noraml. so this isn't really wack. here's a pic of my temps now.....
besides my cpu isn't oc'ed at the moment. the higher you oc your chip the more senseitive it is to haet.

why don't you guys download motherboard monitor 5 and shutdown now. I have it set if my cpu reaches 50c it will shut down the comp.
Dang Hatter!
Just READING this post just about gave me a heart-attack!
But now all is cooled off some, I had a thought (I'm allowed two per year).
Back in the 300A Celeron days (before you were born ;) ), guys would "burn-in" their CPU's to get a better OC. OK, maybe not THAT burnt-in, but you get the idea.
Have you tried to kick your machine up another notch since the accident?
Maybe you can do a little better now.

I have a setting in my bios to shut it down, if the fan stops. Don't know if it works, it's never happened (knock on wood...). I use a lil' app called vcool, that seems to help a lot, with idle temps...haven't seen any posts by anyone anywhere, about usin software cooling, you might need to turn it off, during games, but my idle temps are in the 20's. (vcool only works for via kt133-133a chipsets, but there are others). It has a temp shutdown feature, too (again, never used...I did get up to 60, tho, playin chess...)
Cooling programs slow your comp performance in every area thats why I stopped using one.
I used to use cpucool good programm even without th ecooling feature turned on it shows temps to the decimal.
