hi , im new to the forums, i have a small question.

ive just managed to get hold of a 6800GT from a friend i know but the power socket on it differs from what i have on my power supply , therefore i cannot power it up and get it to work.

Iam from the uk and the standard power socket is a 4pin connector , but this card has a 6pin connector for the power.so iam assuming this card has originally come from the u.s or something like that.

could one of you guys confirm for me whether i have a u.s card pls , and also where i could get an adapter of some sort to convert it to a uk connector.

Thanks in advanced
Matt.

Hey Matt

The connector your talking about is a PCI-E power connection, you need either a compatable PSU or a converter. As far as computers are concerned there is no difference between a US and a UK internal power connection, its not like external plug's; its a global standard :)!

Goto any decent computer shop and you should be able to pick up a Molar to PCI-E power converter!

You might just want to upgrade your PSU as it may not be powerful enough to run this card! Plus, your motherboard does support PCI-E right? Did you not get the above converter with the card?

hope that helps :)

yup PCI-E it is , i have a compliant motherboard.

Thanks a lot for you help , im gonna have to pick up a new PSU then , because i have a PSU without these connections on.

It probably did come with a coverter originally , but i bought it from a friend , cheap , just the card and driver i have :)

thanks a lot for your help

i didnt think of that lol
