I can see how cranking up your core voltage too much
could damage the CPU core.

Could you also damage your chip by cranking up the FSB
too high ?

Wouldnt your chipset or memory start locking you up before
that ?

Too high an FSB will just lock it out. Voltage fries it though.......

I couldn't agree more.
Red is correct.

A higher FSB results in more Mhz, which results in more heat.

I don't really see it frying a chip though, voltage is responsible for that most of the time.

That is a great quote Zuck Gou

As long as you don't use too much voltage, or let it get too hot as a result from running a higher speed and/or voltage then it will be fine. If it's faster than it can run it will just lock up, not break.

Thats what I thought, but now I have a different problem.

Right after I posted this question, I played UT for about
3 hours. Got back to windows and checked the monitor
program to see where my temps where.

Pegged at 43c. CPU fan RPMs = 0000 !!!
Popped off they side cover. CPU fan stopped.
Decided at that point, I might want to power down....

And I had no problems in UT at all ! This is one cool chip.
I guess I can assume I dont need any more "burn-in" time.

I do have several extra case fans including one of those
2CoolPC deals blowing on the MB, so that may haved
saved me.

Got the old Soyo TISU packed up for RMA now.
Hopefully the new one wont have any problems.
I was liking that board a lot. 1mhz steps on FSB and
it supports .025 core voltage adjustments.

I had one of those ThermalTake Dragon Orb 3's on the
CPU header. Its the 0.5 amp /6.0 watt model.

Do you think that thing might have overloaded the molex
connector on the motherboard ?
Perhaps I should get a molex to 4 pin power cable adapter
when the replacement arrives...

Yes, It's highly possible you burnt out the mobo connector. Far better for aftermarket fans to run of a 4-pin adaptor.
