Subject: Official launch this week

Hi,

Just a heads up: we're having our "official" launch this week. We've
been working like crazy to nail down problems, spruce up the web site,
get new servers on line, etc.

You'll hear about the big news/full roll out later this week.

Thanks for all of your help and hard work on our project!

Vijay

Also of note, they will be keeping version 1 going so if you have problems with v2 you can keep using 1. I haven't seen for sure but I believe they will be using different stats for both. I will be switching all but my dual proc machines over until they get multithreading working in v2. Hopefully the final will have it and i can use it right away.

You can go to http://folding.stanford.edu for more info.

They are going to keep the stats seperate? If that is the case and everyone at overclockers.com switches to 2.0 when it comes out, we will be the number 3 team in the world.

Here are the installation instructions right from Stanfords site:

WINDOWS CLIENT INSTALLATION

Note: for Windows 98 and ME operating systems this is all you need to install. If you are using Windows NT, 2000 or XP this package will NOT install the F@H screensaver, but will only install the client which performs scientific calculations. If you are using Windows NT, 2000 or XP, and also want the screensaver, see instructions below. If you just want the client, this is all you need regardless of the operating system. If you do install both the client and the screensaver, the two applications will run fully independently.

(1) Download the client software (press back on the browser and choose the link for the Console Version).

(2) Run the winXXX.exe program (double click on the icon in the location where you saved it). The XXX denote the current version (e.g. as of 2/3/2001, winsaver133.exe is the current version). Since we're constantly improving and releasing new screen savers, consider updating once in a while to get the new features.

(3) The installation program will ask you some questions (e.g. where would you like to install the files). It is recommended that you choose the default values wherever appropriate (on most systems this will be in C:\ProgramFiles\). It will install itself into the specified directory and create a program group (Start > Programs > Folding@Home by default).

(4) Folding@Home is now installed and may be run by Clicking Start > Programs > Folding@Home > Folding@Home. The first time it is run the client will ask you to enter some configuration information and may then download the latest scientific core if the bundled core needs to be updated. This core is approx 400Kb, and could therefore take a little time to download, ~2-5 min on a modem. During the download the client will display the download progress in the lower left hand corner of the main window.

(5) When it is running Folding@Home will display a little red icon in the taskbar, which may be left-clicked on to enable the protein visualisation window, or right clicked on to switch to fullscreen mode or run the configuration window, where user/team information can be updated.

Further details can be found in the README file, which can be viewed through Start > Programs > Folding@Home > Readme

Sweet! I downloaded the beta and must say I like the change. I just need to learn how to use it! ;) BTW, I'll have up to 6 machines running it 24/7 when the non-beta version comes out and works well. Hope to see you in the stats!

I think with KaHNZa and other who want to start/or restart folding with the release of 2.0 I think we may take over #2 in production...if nothing else we will really solidify ourselves as the #3.

Thanks KaHNZa :)

Also thanks to all others who will return with 2.0's release :)
