I want to get a new board for my future "Megarig", but I want to keep my cpu. I have been looking around at both cpu's and boards, and it seems that if I want to keep my current chip, then I will have to make sure I get a board with the correct chipset.
The chipset that I have right now (according to CPU-Z) is an i865P/PE/G/i848P with an ICH5 southbridge. Do I need to make sure that the board I choose has a compatible chipset for my particular cpu, or do I have some leeway with boards that simply advertise support for P4 HT chips of any speed or up to 3.2G?
I would hate to feel like I'm limited in MoBo choices just because I want to keep my cpu.
