Hello all! I recently startted OC'ing my 6800GT, all was going well, it was a little hot but I was informed the card ran hot anyway and it was nothing to really worry about. During a after hours computing session on Saturday my PC crashed, when checking the system temps I noticed the CPU was sitting at around 45 idle.. this was not the case a few weeks ago. The CPU was also hitting 60 at load!!! Having run a number of tests with the new and old card, cleaning the HSF and other various things I have come to the conclusion that my OC'ing efforts have caused the PSU to become damaged, making it give out too much power to the CPU/MOBO causing an overall overheat.
Does this happen a lot? Is it known? Or do you feel I have an issue else where that I am overlooking?
Either way I have a test PSU (borrowed from work) to try out tonight, I will post my results later on in the evening assuming my PC is back in working order.
FYI: When removing your Mobo/CPU/HSF always check your bios is in the same condition, in a fit of maddness (and rush to test my cleaned HSF) I stupidly didnt check my Bios and it had disabled my RAID - 500GB RAID0 gone thanks to windows check disk :P!
