My main computer is hooked up to a Verizon DSL combination modem/router unit. The second computer is a shuttle in the next room, currently hard wired by a long cable to the combo unit. (Eventually it will be moved downstairs and be wireless) I want to hook the printer up to the Shuttle, but still be able to print from the main computer. What do I need to do? I am running XP in both computers. Thanks.

Thank You, jajmon. I tried it exactly as it said, and it does not work. I think the shuttle with the printer connected is all set to share, but I can't get my main computer to find the printer connected to the shuttle. Any ideas?
If you connect to the computer after you set the printer to 'share' it cant see it? Like its not in the printers folder when you connect to it through run \\computernamehere. If it is youd double click on it and hit connect. Or theres some option when you right click too.
First you need to run network wizard on both computers during which you enable sharing printer on a network. That way both computer will be able to detect each other on the network.
Second depending on your printer, printers have an option that need to be on for them to be shared on the network. It is in the properties of printer in the sharing tab, if available.
Third on computer without printer go to Control Panel>Printer and Faxes, there click add a printer click next, select a network printer, click next, select browse for printer, and click next and there you should printer name, select it and click next and finish.

The printer and both computers are on. I even downloaded the driver on the main computer from disk. I will try running the network wizard now. Thanks.

Okay, I ran Network Wizard on both computers, and both have the same Workgroup name. I still can't connect to the printer. :(
I forgot about this on computer without printer go to Control Panel>Printer and Faxes, there click add a printer click next, select a network printer, click next, select browse for printer, and click next and there you should printer name, select it and click next and finish.
Also did you reboot both computers after running network wizard?
Both computer must be able to see each other on the network otherwise it won't work.

Okay, Thank You meionm, I figured it out. All I had to do was go to my network places, click on the other computer, click on the printer icon it showed, then it asked me if I wanted to add it, I said yes, and then PRESTO! it works! I still have the new log on to windows window, but at least I can print. I have no idea what kind of a network or connection I have at this point either, but it works. *lol*
All you Overclockers should get a good chuckle from this thread!
It's amazing how one little "easy" thing can become such a tough thing!
