Bought an inexpensive MB/CPU combo from Fry's and want to overclock just for fun. It is an Intel Celeron 766 on a Shuttle AV18 mobo. Lapped the heatsink, used Arctic Silver II, set FSB to 75Mhz for an overclock of 863Mhz, still using 66Mhz. FSB to 83Mhz yields 955Mhz, system boots to Windows if Voltage increased to 1.85, but Prime 95 errors after a couple of minutes. Thermal probe on CPU core only reads about 50C at error. Tried upping to 100Mhz with BIOS set to 95Mhz which would yield +1Ghz but system would not post. Any suggestions on what else to try to get over 863Mhz? The 766 has an 11.5 multiplier.

Thanks for any and all help.
Mike

Need much better cooling, 50 degrees is too hot for overclocking.

I have to agree with batboy...
I get freaked if my temps are higher than 40c. I like to keep them in the mid 30's.

Right now I have a cele 800 @ 1066 @ 29c idle and 35c under load with an Alpha PEP66T heatsink and the slow Sanyo fan....

Get some better cooling...

OK, thanks for the input folks. Got an Alpha PEP66 with the 40cfm YStech fan on it headed this way. I'll put it on and see what happens. :)
