just got a 866 pIII stuck it in the slot and gess what when i change the speed manualy it dont work it shows 600 speed have a converter for slot 1 coppermine at the moment i have a pIII 700 RUNNING AT 770 NO TRUB the m/b is a asus p3v4x/533-u do i need to update the bios and can i clock it faster than 866 without it hanging much appreciate the input

You'll need to add more information to your computer...

Motherboard and such ...

And yes updating bios is a must :)

I hope your not tryin to change the multiplier since anything beyond P2 have locked multipliers(I was seriously dumb before and tried changing it) anyways it happened to me before and it said my speed was 333 when it was suppose to be lets say 550 or something..

Your P3-866 has a multiplier of 6.5 so if your speed shows 600 it means you've somehow set your FSB to 92Mhz (?!?!) The P3v4x is a 133Mhz slot1 mainboard so she should be able to boot up at least at the default 866Mhz without any BIOS update. The problem is prolly in your slotket, did you doublecheck the setting of any jumpers there? Play with combinations of 100/133 or 'overclock'.
