You *could*...but it probably wouldn't work that well. Better than nothing, but you should consider some real thermal grease.

Put it between the cpu and heatsink. It'll transfer heat a bit better than the air that would be trapped in there without it. Not a ton better, but a little bit.

Overall, not really worth it.

It's better than nothing, but you really should go to Radioshack and buy some proper thermal goo.

This sounds interesting. Anybody got a recipe for homemade thermal goop?
I'm quite happy with my non-conductive Nanotherm Ice.

I collect wierd posts like this one.

Hoot’s Alternatives to Thermal Grease

Get some thermal compound on that thing. Until you do, use a thin layer of petroleum jelly, dialectric grease, even Crisco! They're better than nothing!

I think it would depend on what the 'melting point' of the particular brand of hair gel is.

I'd just go to Radio Shack and get some thermal paste. Seems like there's one or two in every town nowadays anyhow.

try using some of ur thickest saliva...

Actually you could NOT use gel as an adhesive, since it will not really hold anything in place (other than hair).

You could use it for thermal paste, say between your CPU and HSF, but not as adhesive to hold a HSF on a video card or something like that.

I'd recommend true thermal grease or true thermal adhesive depending on what you need (grease or glue).

Why hasn't anybody mentioned applesauce? I tried it and it lowered my temperatures by 7.5 °C. Then I realized that I'd frozen the applesauce and forgotten to turn on the computer.

Sorry but toothpaste is worse then nothing. It seems that when it's hot, it will turn into this dry flaky crap, that will even kill the cooling

AF2( Arctic Fecal 2) is out on the market if you wish to try that. Now it may smell funny but it will lower your temps buy a good 8ºF as long as its not hot when you pur it on.
