View Full Version : Battlefield 2: [OCG] Community BF2 Video
Hey guys, I got permission from Oni to create this thread, so here it is.
As a community activity, I would really like to get you guys together to come up with a video based off BF2.
I'm not sure if you guys have seen videogame videos before, but they're usually based off the following categories:
-Stunt (just doing cool tricks in game, this one is fun)
-Humor (think of the Leeroy Jenkins WoW video done by that one guild)
-Mechanima/story-based (There was a video for BF:V called The Fallen One which was awesome, much like this)
What would you guys be interested in? We'd need somebody with a great sense of humor if we were to make a funny video, but the other ones are a bit easier.
BF2 is very very easy to pull off stunts in, which makes it a pretty good idea IMO. In a server with FF and team vehicle FF off, we can use C4 in a variety of ways, usually launching land vehicles all over the map. Air vehicles can also be used (such as jumping out of a plane into another plane or chopper), as can the RIB (boat). You can stand the RIB up on the back by running it into the carrier so that you tip it back, then you can balance it there...which is really funny. Also, there's a lot of parachute stunts that you can do in the game (such as parachute standing), or even vehicle stacking.
So what do you guys think? We could get a server and use BattleRecorder to do all the filming, then just do some post production stuff and release it once we're done. We're going to need a whole crew for this. Even if you guys don't want to do the actual stunts, we're going to need people setting off C4, helping set stuff up, etc.
So, are you down for it?

a humor video could be fun also, there's enough humor just making fun of all the idiots who don't know how to play the game (I'm talking to YOU mister mine all entrances to a base guy, wherever you are)

How soon you starting this? I'm in for doing whatever is needed, even if it's just standing around to make it look better. :) I won't have the rig up and running for at least a for at least a week or so, but count me in. Just get ahold of me and let me know what I can do.

My idea is that when the server is setup, we'll set it up so that we have a round with a pretty large timelimit, battlerecorder on, and friendly fire of both types off. We'll also need a TS server for communication.
Basically, there's a few different stunts I have the intention of trying.
1) Attach C4 to the back of vehicles who then jump, then sequential C4 detonations on the back of it propel it further in the air
2) Various stunts from the air. The best possible stunt I can think of is have a F-35 pilot jump out into an F-15, while the 2nd pilot in the F-15 jumps out into a hovering Cobra or blackhawk. It'd require some timing, but it'd be amazing to watch.
3) Flying through certain parts on maps (kubra dam is a good example)
4) Skydiving, skydiving, skydiving. There's plenty of BASE jumping to be had, in addition to parachute standing and the like.
Any other ideas you guys can think of or think we can do better? Any jumps to scope out? Post em here.

Like I said I'm a very good pilot with either chopper or aircraft but we may need another one or two.

I would be interested. I made a little video of my own @ work one day... Hahah. If anyone else besides me has a paid version of Fraps it works perfectly for recording videos too.

i have always wondered, could we shoot something from the carriar to the beach on gulf of oman? with enoough people and C4, i am pretty sure we could do it, just turn off friendly fire :D

That would be awesome but it also seems like it would be hard timing all the C4 cuz not only do you have to go for distace but also keep whatever vehicle off the water.
put C4 on the bottom, duh!
I was actually thinking of taking 2 RIBs and trying to drive a tank out to the carrier, then we could send it back :P
Are there any vehicles (besides the RIB) on the carrier? How are we supposed to do such a thing? I mean, I guess we could blow a blackhawk that far...but that's not cool enough. How about something in reverse? :D Blowing a tank onto the carrier would be pretty awesome.
I know how to get the RIB standing straight up...so we could theoretically attach C4 to the back and try to get the RIB as high as possible...and even jump out and try to get in a blackhawk :P
The way the C4 physics work is wierd. Putting C4 on the back only gives you a forward thrust, no flipping at all. However, the C4 can be used to continue a flip once the flip is initiated (as in, the vehicle is rotating along it's x axis and C4 is propelling it along).
I'm thinking that perhaps we could try to bring a humvee over that entire bridge on Karkand? Starting from the suburb where it makes those 2 descents (the street that turns into the bridge), we could go down the first one, cross the flat, then blow the C4 all the way over the bridge and hopefully land it all the way across.
We'll probably be using BattleRecorder because while Fraps takes what's on the screen, the recorder takes what's going on on the entire map, so we can change camera angles on the fly, get every single possible shot we want, etc.
Fraps, however, will be needed for the post-production stuff, as in grabbing the BattleRecorder files and turning them into usable clips, then piecing together that part and editing, then we put it to a cool music track and release it to the world :)
It seems like we've got a sizeable crew here ready to go, so as soon as we have our server setup, we will be a go. :D

have the RIB roll over a guy, and since FF is off, he just puts them on the bottom, and then the driver keeps going, and we all do the syncronized blow em thing.
perhaps luanch a tank off of kubra dam?
I would actually like to see how far we can get a tank, I want to blow it from MEC to US main...but that would be really really tough.
Remember, we have to get the tank ready to launch first...which means we need to find a suitable jump.
I suggest you look at some BF2 stunt videos for inspiration. May I suggest any videos by the Sir. community, in addition to the Ya Rayah vid ;)

can you fly around in a plane with people on top of it? if so we could have tons of fun :D
Eh, it's harder since the days of BF:V and BF1942. Usually you'll either TK the person on top (haven't tried it with FF off, although you can still be run over with FF off might I add ;)), or they'll fall off. We can try constructing a vehicle tower (use the 64 player version of Dalian plant)
Basically, we land a J-10 on the carrier (I can do this), then we proceed to stack both JSFs on top of that. Then we stack both blackhawks on top of the stack, then we top it off with 2 cobras and maybe somebody sitting all the way up at the top. We could also do a time-lapse shot, which would be cool :D
What we can do is have people jump out of planes into other vehicles. Basically my grand idea (and probably this would be the finale) would be an F-18 coming from one direction the highest on the stack, the F-15 coming from the other way, and a cobra hovering at the bottom. Basically, the F-18 pilot bails into the F-15, while the F-15 backseat simultaneously bails into the Cobra. It could work, and would be really really really insane to watch.

Could 2 jets fly straight up, both pilots jump out and free fall, and each get into the other person's jet? That would be sick
maybe have a RIB land on a jet? hehe, like on kubra dam map, with that big ass bridge, or something of the sort

Haha, yes we could do the 2 jet switch. What I would really like to see is on like Kubra Dam, have 2 US and 2 MEC pilots go up in the SU-34 and F-15 and switch planes alltogether...that'd be pretty amazing.
Speaking of RIBs, if we could find a banked place on the shore, I'm thinking that we can just launch the RIB and try to land it in one of those ponds at the MEC airfield :D
Also, for the whole recorded video, we want it to look amazing. I'm not sure how the settings work, but we might need somebody to run the game at it's best. I'm talking 16x AA (maybe?), 8x aniso, all settings pumped up as high as we can get them.

Are we really? Do we know how the BattleRecorder works? Does it give you a full render of the scene in your settings? Can you bump up the settings after you have the battlerecorder recording? I basically just want really high quality picture on this one...nothing more.

well you cant change your video settings after you start a game, so i dont see how you would do that.
and i dont think battle recorder would add AA and AF
Battlerecorder uses a format that has to be re-rendered every time you want to watch it (untill you vid capture it), it saves coordinates by time.
Kubra dam is a nice one. Try getting a plane past a helo in the tunnel. Or doing a corkscrew with a plane in it.
It's cool to see someone jump 300ft then pull the chute in the last 5m..lol

Can we perhaps fly 2 planes through the tunnel going opposite directions and have somebody jump out and switch planes?

The 'add c4 to vehicles and make them fly with tk off' has been done a zillion times, every simple BF2 vid has it. I suggest we skip that and find something better and more original.
I'm in for some stunts and combat action.
- Run a jeep off of kubra dam and make the driver bail out into a passing jet
- A helo gets attacked by a plane on dahlian plant, helo hides in the cooling tower, plane goes past, helo comes out and blows the plane.
- On strike at karkand, have an enemy team (3 - 4 men) capture a flag, and a single assault guy sweeping them all in a single move, of course using some sweet bullet time moves. (replay in slow motion)
- Try to make loops with the buggies using the ramps found everywhere.
- Do a tank/APC fight. Which maps has the most tanks/APC's in it? Make sure each team has at least 5 and do a faceoff somewhere, then have the 'winning team' wrapped by a chopper after that.
- Put funny music under it and make them dance / headbank. If you are in a buggy or jeep and quickly look uo and down constantly, it looks like hilarious headbanging, especially if everyone in the jeep does it.
Seven, go make a nice .doc file and add all the ideas :)
I like it...I really do.
An idea I had that sort of ties into all of the ideas we had would be a "Solutions to stupidity" model. We'd have our "noobs" do stuff like setup a huge minefield around a friendly tank, and we'd have to figure a way to get the tank out of there (can you say, C4 on the bottom :D). Or say somebody is camping a vehicle, we should have the F-15 pilot pass into the hangar and pick up somebody standing on that ladder/stairs thing. I also think the time-lapse video of us creating a vehicle stack of monumental proportions would be very very cool to watch.
On Kubra Dam, we could have the person sprint off that balcony where the tunnel lets out into a jet...that would look way too awesome for words.

ok, ill stop the C4 thing, i just love watching C4 make things go faster :D
how about using planes as missles? that would surely make some folks crap their pants seeing about 4 or 5 planes come flying at them headon :D
maybe see if any of use could do some blue angels stunts, like flying in insane formations and such
and i still want to see if we can land an RIB on a plane.
maybe chopper races through the city?

Any new ideas? The server should be coming up within the next 2 weeks hopefully, which also means that we will start getting on the server and start getting filming started. It really doesn't take too many people to do some of these stunts, but it's probably best if we have more as opposed to less, because then we can do stuff that's a bit more complicated.

What about putting C4 at the end of the carrier and having some one runnnig and jump then blow the C4. Which would make him fly higher then have a blackhawk waiting for him to jump in it mid air.

Hmmm....I wonder what BF2's physics are for RIBs and JSFs.
I'm thinking we could find a place to roll a tank onto a JSF/RIB or 2 and see if we can tote it around.
Wicked: I like that...It'd be cool if we did it with a passing plane.
For the credits, I'd like to have some sort of way of highlighting each one of us, or a few people as a group? The most basic would be all of us standing in a line, but that would require that all of us are present...which is hard. There's the option of a bunch of crazy group stunts we could do, either stuff that's been repeated, or stuff that's just funny or too wierd to show.
IDEAS FOR CREDITS:
-Everybody has a shotgun and points it at somebody elses head. Rules are that nobody can have 2 guns pointed at their head, and nobody can have their gun pointed at nobody. We go "3, 2, 1, GO" and everybody fires, and everybody dies :D Matrix III style.
-Stomping. I know you can kill people if you land on them...so maybe we should try some of it :)
-Ever notice when you're sprinting at round start and you take damage? I think it's because people actually cause you impact damage. If we can have 2 people sprint at a wall, we can actually have them TK each other.
-A gigantic knife battle between 2 "gangs" who roll up in their humvees :)
-An old western showdown, complete with western music, etc.
Anybody got any other funny/cool ideas? I'm thinking we could depict some...well...explicit ...scenes, but that could get us in some hot water...but it'd be amazingly funny.
Okay, any other ideas? When the server comes up, we'll get on and start experimenting. Look for perhaps a new thread with set dates, etc.

have all of us do a rave to techno music? on top of buildings, in the streets, and then the cops roll up, in the hummers, and chase us :D i dunno something with us bouncing around to techno music just sounds fun :D

The camera is on 12 soldiers standing ona hill like "Band Of Brothers" and then its all serious and what not and then bam....they get run over or like Reddragon said crash a plain into them. Then har drock music comes on and then the rest of the movie is hard core c4 stuff like shard likes. Anyone like that?

Well I have a temp server up (its on a 2mbit up connection) incase we want to practice stuff before wedo gets the real server up. I got all the admin stuff worked out now so I can ban/kick/change maps and stuff.
The ip is 68.98.161.16 on the default port.

i just got done watching a few other BF2 stunt movies, and i couldnt stop luaghing at many of them, hahaha, but i might have a few ideas, i must perfect them first, and yes they involved C4, but very infentive :D

I'm in, may not be the best pilot to cap CP's but I've stuffed a blackhawk in some very tight places. ;)
