question about dual chan

my mobo supports dual chan ddr 400, if i populate the first slot in channel a and b will it enable automaticly or do i have to enable it some how ?

Yes, dual channel will be enabled automatically after you have inserted memory modules (requires that you have set them on the right slots)

I believe that you're putting your ram in both blue slots, then yes, dual channel will be enabled automatically.

yes thats right, thanks for the help, would it say when it posts if its running in dual chan or not ? or does that depend on the mobo ?

cpu-z will tell you if it is or not.

Most do tell you if it doesn't display some sort of graphical logo. Download CPU-Z if you don't have it already and go to the memory tab. It'll tell you there for sure.
