I have an AMD 1.2 mhz kicked up to 1418 mhz.....the machine runs very stable but my cpu temps are at 43c idle....is this an acceptable tempurature?
I'd help you out but I dont know what temp " E'ci " is.

Thats a fine temperature. if it was any lower you could probably go for more mhz ;)
Idle temps aren't a good measurement of how good your cooling is. Run your cpu at 100% for a while to find your load temp (by running Folding@Home, SETI@Home, Prime95, or a burn-in program)

Some ppl can stand it when they see 50s in their high loads. But to get the most out of your cpu life, and to make sure your room doesn't feel like a toaster, mid 40s at high load is acceptable. There is an article on the overclockers.com site about acceptable temps. AMD says that their chips are capable of withstanding up to 90 degrees (up to 1 gig I think), but that's just crazy. If yours is 42 on idle, it should maybe rise to 45-47 on high load, which is acceptable, but again try to keep it down
What kind of cooling are you using?

amd cpus can stand up to 95degrees celcus, but get better cooling, watercooling, comperssor cooling, liquid nitrogen, ethanol (oh, not that extreame)

Supposedly, the engineering MAXIMUM is 90-95C... However, I doubt they would run that hot for very long... Usually best to keep them in the 45-55 range under full load. The Cooler the better.
