Help on friends new computer

My friend wants to know what to buy.He has 2.53 ghz pent 4 radeon 9700 and 512 ram. He wants to upgrade everything including case.Budget is less than $1000.Things he wants included is 160gig hd and dvd drive and cdrw drive.
Thx for the help if u could just give a list of parts.If he picks a case ill let u know the price.

P.S. He plays bf2 so 2 gigs of ram would be good.

He is going to be very hard pressed to get all of that, plus an extra 1.5gb of ram. Look around newegg, find some parts that are cheap, drop the links and kindly ask people to give their opinions on the items.

wait wait, what hardrive does he have now. Im sure there are parts of that comp that can pass over to his new comp. Thats what i did i took my old dvd rom my old dvd burner and my bigger harddrive. DOing this will make it easier to afford what he wants. And new case? is it really nec? if his case has good air movement and doesnt get hott why not keep it? thats a ez 100 dollars u could save. Who cares if u dont got shiny lights. Theresno performance gain from those. But like i said try saving parts that u can use learn howto stretch that dollarlol. and just watch neweggs daily deals they get soem nice stuff in there
