View Full Version : What type of radiator for a Lian-Li PC-65 case?
Has anyone tried putting a CUBE type radiator in a Lian-Li PC-60 or PC-65 case?

I'm going to try to fit an aquacoil in my PC-68.
I'll have to take out the hard drive cage and put it there. That way it'll be sucking cool air right off the intake fans. That's the only place I could think of where it or any radiator would fit without seriously modding the case.
I was going to put a res in that spot but I couldn't find any other place to put a radiator. The res will have to go on top of or under the optical drives.

I was thinking about putting a 120mm blowhole in the front of the case, just for better air flow to the rad. But I have a fear about cutting up nice case.

taking out the hard disk cadge it the best idea unless you want to stick it in the 5 1/4 drive bays (i think it will take up 3) or get a flat radiator and stick it in the side

I thought about putting a flat radiator in the side panel, but I want to put a window there.
I will just barely have enough room to put the res up in the 5 1/4 drive bays.
I will also have to take out the track that the drive cage rides on but that shouldn't be much of a problem. Just pop out a couple rivets. Should be pretty easy to replace it if necessary.
If I'd known I was going to be doing all this watercooling crap I would have gotten the PC-70. The PC-68 is pretty damn sweet looking, though (better than the PC-60.) :p
I'm not getting the radiator until friday so I wont be able to try anything till this weekend.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Well, I got my radiator a day early. (aquacoil)
It fit perfectly under the floppy drive cage.
Of course, I had to remove the lower drive cage, and the rails it rode on... and the little speaker... and I had to bend down the little tabs that hold the speaker down... then it fit perfectly.:D
I also placed a little piece of 1/8" closed-cell foam under it just to snug it in.
Heck, I may even have enough room to put the reservoir down there... that is, if I don't mind it blocking the airflow.
I'll try it out when I get my res, I guess.

Well I get my PC-60 case Friday so I'm glad to know it fits.
Well I got the case today and the Aquacoil fits like a glove. I had to do the same thing as you remove the drive cage and rails.
Now I'll have to test it out like this with the 2 80mm fans in front and the 120mm behind the Aquacoil.
I still might replace the 2 80mm fans with 1 120mm fan, I'll just see how it goes.

Well, I've noticed a little prob w/this setup. All the hot air from the radiator ends up blowing directly onto the PCI slots and then remains in the case for a while. It doesn't make it really hot, but it's enough to bother me. It won't really matter when I get the other two water blocks (GPU & chipset.) but...
I have thought of some possible solutions, though:
1. Turn the front fans around.
- kinda defeats the purpose of having a filter
- blows warm air from case through the radiator
2. Duct the warm air directly out of the case. (turbokeu)
- Like in the pic (I flipped it)... or even out the side.
- would have to find another way to get cool air into the case... I really don't want to add more fans, would defeat the purpose of watercooling
- involves a lot of cutting
3. Turn the radiator sideways, then run a fan on each side
- would block the cool air from the front fans
- involves a lot of cutting
- would probably have to add two right angles to the water lines
What do you think?
As far as adding a 120mm... I don't think it'd be worth the effort. You've already got plenty of *controllable/filtered* airflow up front. Two 80mm fans should be able to keep up with a 120mm. I couldn't do it because I've got the PC-68, which has the fancy face that I don't want to f-up.
Question? Comments?

With the setup and case I have now (my old case) there is only 1 120mm fan on the heater core rad and a 120mm blowhole in the front of the case. that doesn't add too much heat to the case.
Well for the added hot air being dumped into the case, I will might be adding a 120mm fan to the top of the case and I will replace the 80mm in the back with a 92mm.
I just want to make sure I get enought air into the rad and get the hot air back out again.
Plus I don't use a res in my setup I keep it close loop. So that will give me alittle more room to play with.
