View Full Version : 2kpro now the password for the dialup is always saved wrong?
Ok since the upgrade to 2kpro I've noticed the password for my dialup is wrong even though I saved the correct one. After the first access where I save the password it changes and it changes on every user account I make its getting pretty irritating. I've reinstalled the internet startup crap and tried using the IE login setup , I've also reformatted a few times (other reasons) and the problem is constant. I got all the win updates so I'm lost anyone had this problem or have any ideas of how to solve this problem?
*update* The only reason I really care is I want to fold@home while I'm sleeping or gone.
did u try to connect using that "wrong" password already? mine always saves a wrong one with far more characters than my correct one but once i tried to connect using it and it actually worked. try the wrong one, i dont know why that happens.
I believe it shows approxamatly 16 *** to throw of hackers and peeping Toms that may be able to guess your password with the right amount of asterisks. Make any sense?

Ya I've tried that it just gives me the wrong name/user , oh well I guess I'll have to fold useing win98se.
if u enter the correct ones it will connect normally, wont it?
have you saved the password in the properties of your connection? if you did try erasing the password from the properties then you run the connection, enter the password and check the save option. when you try to connect again later dont change anything, just push the button to connect.
i guess if youve installed some connection manager it could be influencing on that too.

Yes when I enter the right pass it will connect as normal. Yes I've saved the password by clicking the little box. I tried erasing the pass and typeing the right one in then clicking save it wont work. After that initial connect when I come back the the pass is 16 digits but I havent tried just hitting connect button I usually type in the correct one , I'll have to try that. The connection manager isnt the colprit it does the same thing when I used the IE setup.
Here is some stuff on trying to work this out:
This problem may occur if your user name contains characters that are not allowed.
or
Verify that the Network settings of the Dial-up Networking connectoid are correct:
Right-click the Dial-up Networking connectiod, and then click Properties.
Click the Network tab, and then confirm that Client for Microsoft Networks is installed and that it is selected.
or
Verify that password caching is enabled; to do so, you need to use Registry Editor. (CAREFULL HERE IF U DO NOT KNOW WHAT U ARE DOING).
View the DisablePwdCaching value (a DWORD value) in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Network
If password caching is disabled, the DisablePwdCaching value has a value data of 1. To enable password caching, change the value data to 0.
NOTE: If the DisablePwdCaching value does not exist, add this DWORD value with a data value of 0 to the preceding registry key. You may need to remove this value altogether and then restart your computer to make caching work.
or
Disable automatic logon. To do so, delete the AutoLogon value (a binary value) from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Network\Real Mode Net
or
Remove Dial-Up Networking, and then reinstall it:
In the Network properties, record each Network component and its configuration information:
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network.
Click a component on the Configuration tab, click Properties, and then record all of the component's settings. Repeat this process with another component until you record all of the component configuration information.
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Click the Windows Setup tab.
Click Communications, and then click Details.
Click to clear the Dial-Up Networking check box, click OK, and then restart your computer if you are prompted to do so.
Repeat steps a through c.
Click to select the Dial-Up Networking check box, and then click OK.
