I am in the middle of building my new computer and I have a problem

I am using a OCZ 520 Powerstream with a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum with a AMD X2. The MSI board has 20 pin connector and a 4 pin P4 connector.

When I connect just the 20 pin ATX 12V connector (and not the P4) the system powers up except no power to the cd drives and the hardrive but all the fans and processor are on and I have all three green lights on behind the PSU

Then you would think that I just need to plug in the blue P4 connector and all things would be fine, but when I do plug in the P4 connector with the ATX 12V connector, the system will not turn on at all, it only turns on when "just" the ATX 12V is plugged in and the P4 unplugged.

Any ideas what my problem could be?

Thanks
Mark

Welcome to the forums!

Most likely you have the wrong 4 pin plug plugged into the 12v board connector - it's been known to happen to those not familiar with these PSU's. If this is the 4 pin plug that snaps off the 24 pin ATX connector, don't use that on the 12v connector - it's not compatible.

The owner's manual should clear things up. However, if you are indeed using the right connector, I'd contact OCZ.

I'm almost positive that he's using the wrong one... that is if it fits anyways.

You're probably using the 4-pin one that is meant for 24pin atx connections just like Wolf said.

I hope you didn't try hooking that up while the computer was on... did you? It will zap something and end up being a friend board.

By the way, I heard that the MSI k8n boards had some issues with the ocz 520... is that true?

Thanks for the replies

I did not use the "black" 4 pin that is meant for 24pin atx, I used the the blue 4 pin that is marked with P4, but when I plug that one in the system does not turn on, but sometimes it turns on for a split second, but if I unplug the the blue P4 connector then the system turns on.

Im starting to think its my motherboard and not the PSU

Have you tried different ram, cpu, video? I always try swapping out things one by one IF i have extra parts to do that with.
