ok... i just installed an old tape drive into one of our servers for backup reasons...
now i am running windows server 2000 on this thing.. and i went to setup the backup and schedualed it.. now i go back to read the report from the backup and it failed because there was no media.... Now i installed this tape and it is in the device manager as installed and stuff. but i do not see it in the "my computer" ... i am totally new to tape drives so.. i am not to sure how i could setup the tape drive.. any tips or links to tutorial?
oh btw i looked at the segate site for anythign but could not find anything.. so i turned to my favorite place for support..
p.s. i cannot spell
Hmmm.
Could the media be write protected? Check the tab on the tape. Best thing to do is grab a couple of files and try to back them up on tape. See what happens and adjust the software based on the error you get.
What software are you running?
In backupexec your media has to be either scratch media or in a backup set that isn't in write protect mode etc etc...

could be the wrong tape for the drive ? If you have it installed correctly it should show up in computer management or my computer. Download the appropriate software/drivers from seagate. I just recently got an old seagate tapestore working. I had to download the software from travan. Seagate didn't really make those drives, and they don't support them anymore.

the drive shows up in the device manager but not in my computer. I installed Backupassist and this is the error i get if i try to backup anything...
The backup operation was not attempted because BackupAssist was unable to communicate with the tape drive. Please check your tape drive is installed properly.
i tried updating the drivers through windows.. i might just need to get the drivers and install them manuelly or something... and what was that "travan" you were talking about.. is that a site or something?

Travan is the company that manufactured those drives.
