Thought I would show you the newest gaming mouse from Logitech. The new mouse called G5 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2464,CONTENTID=10715) has a 2000DPI Laser engine, comes with weights so you can set it up to be as light or heavy as you want. Also has full-speed USB at 500reports per second, polytetrafluoroethylene gaming feet for a more fluid movement. Also has the in game DPI switching ability as the 518 with lghits to show you what setting you have it at. MSRP for this mouse is $69.99.

I have both an MX510 and 518 sitting right next to me, and there was a rather noticable improvement moving to the 518. I can only imaging what this mouse would be like to use.

Just when I thought the Razer Copperhead wasn't going to have any competition...
For those who don't know, the Copperhead has almost exactly the same specs with a different design(like the rest of the Razers), and no DPI or weight changing. I do think the weight changing is pointless though, I just want my mouse as light as possible.

The G7 is wireless and otherwise the same as the G5.

What DPI is the normal MX1000

Wicked Klown
08-31-05, 04:46 PM
Resolution: 800dpi , Imaging processing 5.8 megapixels per second. So it's the same speed as the MX510. Where as the G7 has Tracking Resolution: 2000 dpi, Image Processing: 6.4 megapixels/second

Wow two less then the MX500, 510 and the 518. Wonder why they got rid of the other two buttons.

I think the only thing I like about it is the fast-swap Li-ion battery packs for the wireless version. I'm not to crazy about 2000 dpi on a mouse, much less the 1600 dpi on the MX518. My hand isn't steady enough for anything above 800 to make a difference. :(

I wouldn't want two batteries floating around my room! I would lose one. I do like buttons..the more, the better. :)

I do like the paint design on the G7 it looks cool. Any new mx models in planning?

Is it just me or is the G7 green?

Kevin007

"Available in silver/metallic green", ya it is, it looks almost like a blue-green color. It is still nice.

I see they added a gaming section for mouses :)

i am buying a mouse and i can decie G7 or G5 - right now the G7 looks nice, but color is questionable.

They both seem cool, I would probely get the G7, because it is wireless, and I really want to try not having a cord.

The G15 is a sexy keyboard. I have the MX1000 and have gone through MX500 -> MX700 to my 1000. The G7 and G5 look like really nice gaming mice, but I really like having all my mx1000 buttons.

I also don't know how useful the swappable batteries are.... cuz my mx1000 gets like 1-2weeks on a charge. And if the batteries are more or less the same on the G7, the charge on each battery should be more than enough. It's not like you'll be gaming for more than a few days straight.

Now the G5 with the weights is pretty ingenius. but it's not something that would really appeal to me.

The DPI upgrade sounds really nice. It'd be nice if they upgraded the MX1000.

As for the keyboard, it looks really awesome. The LCD is something that will baffle everyone, but I don't think it really is that useful. I mean, while you're gaming, you're not really going to be looking at your keyboard/lcd. But it is still cool.

That's just my thoughts on logitech's new products. but it's pretty sweet they're coming up with newer ideas and putting them into their products.

Why should they upgrade the MX1000? The G7 is the new model, I guess... Other than the fact that it's not an infrared.

I agree with Dc5e. It's pretty much useless... but very cool. I was looking at the pictures on the Logitech site and it looked like an AIM or MSN conversation on the screen. I think that would be very useful for gaming, especially if you could type back without having to alt+tab and focus on a different window. To make it even better, I'd like it to be wireless so I can scroll through my mp3 list where ever I am with the keyboard. Like on my bed or something. However, I dont think there would be terribly good battery life.

it is supposed to make the mouse lighter, by giving it smaller batteries ;).

I would use the LCD for a clock, that would be awesome or a calculator lol.

well i thought the wireless one was supposed to come with two batteries so you could swap out for your charged one and then put the low battery on the charger.....it kinda makes it so you never like have to charge your mouse but rather just the batteries. does that sound about right?

Mr.Guvernment
09-03-05, 11:55 AM
i can do a pre-order now, but i figure just wait till they are out.

^^ correct - they give you 2 batteries for thate xact reason - they say the battery life if used for constant gaming will last about 2 days

I just got my MX518 and have already gotten used to 1600DPI in everyday use. Actually thinking about getting the G5 now, wish I had waited and gotten it, but oh well
