Seriously, i was just sitting watching the ads, when a PCWorld ad comes on with all the flashy music and affects and its like "get this AMAZING Pentium 4 based PC for ONLY 799!!" So I'm think yeah, what else? and then it goes something like "Browse the internet *blah* *blah* " And it STILL says nothing else about the specs!! All it has is the stupid effects and a close up of the tower with some blue LED's on! So through the full advert the only info that you get is the size of the LCD monitor (17" i think) and what make CPU it has!! :bang head :bang head

Yep, it's called "Stupid marketing" They market to people who don't KNOW about computers, and thats how they can sell sub par systems.

That's what most users know. They don't know what matters in the tech specs of a computer. The ad could talk about ram, and video cards, or etc, but the users wouldn't have a clue what they are talking about.

It's like a car commercial coming on and talking about compression ratios or hp and torque curves. Most people don't have a clue, and could probably care less.

Thats what im saying, it didnt mention a thing about ram, just how amazing it was and stuff... I know people don't know much, but they should atleast mention a few specs about it :-/

That's not entirely true. People know 'bigger is better', so therefore if a computer has a lot of big numbers beside it, it's ultimately a kick-ass system.

/me inserts the intel "ding dong" thing here.

Really, most people just don't care what is in thier computer as long as it turns on. If they can type an email and insert a pic or two, that counts for bonus points.

Crana, the PC I beleive is a Packard Bell 1507 with 17in monitor, 3.0GHz P4, 1024MB RAM, 200GB hard disk, Intel integrated graphics and a DVDRW drive, with a HP 1317 All-in-one printer and a software pack.

Yes, I'm sad. I happen to work for the sister company to PC World....

I tend to sell customers what they *need*. If they want a basic PC to do email and typing I would say the best PCWorld/Dixons/Currys has is the Compaq 1519 package - A64 3200+/512MB/160GB/ATi XPress200 graphics/DVDRW/17in monitor/HP PSC1317 for £570.

At the end of the day the specs do mean very little to many people. They just want a decent PC and I refuse to sell customers stuff they don't need, unless they say they want something faster.

Intel integrated graphics

I laughed so hard when I saw this.

Maybe I should try that dump people ad tactic and promote Intel 486 and let people think 486 is far bigger and more powerful than just plain 4.

Thats the one ;) PC World aren't that bad, they do stock fans, compressed air and case modding stuff.... all of which are pathetically overpriced of course :D

Honestly...Whats the use of telling the general public every detail of the computer anyways?

Within a month, the computer will be so trashed with Viruses and spyware they got by downloading new Smiley faces, and Cute Screen savers.

That 3200 64bit processor or that P4 you mentioned will be worthless due to all the spyware on their PC.

Within a month, they can turn the beefiest system into something that is slower than a Intel Pentium 133.

If i got my 400 Mhz Celeron PC up and working again, that thing would just run faster than 50% of the PC's in home use at the moment anyways.

The more info about a PC the general buyer knows, The more they have to gripe about when their computer crashes because they can't understand that THEY killed their computer, and that it WASN'T the 500W PSU being to powerfull and killing their PC......
