I am building a new system and I am putting in a P4 1.7ghz 423 socket processor. I have been looking into all this talk about overclocking and I would like to give it a try. All I need is a good HSF.... I have been looking at te Taisol CEP405092 or should I look at water cooling cuz I plan on moving to a 2ghz. Any suggestions on the HSF and if I should do water cooling, is there any website to give a good breakdown of how to do it???? Please help.Age Of Empires II: The Conquerors RULEZ:mad:

this is my veiw:

pentium 4s are carp and the best way to cool them is spray them with expandable foam and increase the voltage

now for the info:

i dont think there are many good heatsinks for pentium 4s at the moment, but globalwin make some, cheack their website. if you want to use a good heatsink (alpha or SK6) then you should but them and mod them to fit

So what exactly makes the AMD processors better than the P4's? Afterall AMD is just copying Intels work isn't it?

a 1.4 amd Atherlon is faster then a 2GHz pentium 4, this is beacuse lots of features have been removed from the pent 4 and rambus memory is used, which is more expensive and not as fast in real life then DDR memory, i forgot, welcom to the forums

So you are saying I have wasted my money and should begin building another system for a AMD chip, hey the P4 was and is fun why not start another, hehe

you havn't wasted money, get a globelwin heatsink and a good graphics card, the pent 4s are quite good at games and you will get a good overclock, i just wont be as fast as a slower AMD

P4 does great under XP, there are a lot of things optimized for the SSE and SSE2 that the P4 does. As far as cooling, the Swiftech MC462 will fit on either a P4 or an Athlon, as will the Zalman CNPS-5000+. Both are excellent coolers and retail in the 35-75 USDollar range. Enjoy that chip, should do just fine for ya, and they run pretty darn cool as well...
