Is there a PDA that will allow me to do my daily reports, and yet is Nextel Direct Connect compatiable? One that I can just take the SIM out of my Company cell phone and place it in the new phone?

As far as I know, Nextel doesn't use SIM cards. I think you're asking if you can put diesel in a gas-powered car.

Interesting--I thought they used digitally programmed phones like Verizon and Sprint.

I stand corrected! :)

Motorola phone's on the iDEN use SIMs. You shouldn't switch SIMs amongst phones without first registering the ESN (I believe) with Nextel. I asked about this once with my rep, and the issue falls into the same category as a stolen phone would. Just my 2 cents...

I'm on Nextel also, and would like a full size (Windows Mobile) PDA phone for use on iDEN but no such thing....that why I went with a Samsung i700 on a CDMA network for my wife's celly. Our main CDMA carrier here is Verizon. The Express Network (data) is sweet....beats the crap out of GPRS.

Nextel is pretty behind when it comes to new technology. They had their first camera phone available in like 2003 or early 2004... quite slow.

I work for Verizon so let me tell you an i730 on our EVDO (wireless broadband network, DSL speed through the air) is amazing. So unless you are still under contract... go with a new carrier like Verizon Wireless if a cool PDA is something you really want. If not then you are out of luck im sorry.

And I am almost certain there are no direct connect or Push to Talk (Verizon's version of walkie talkie) PDA.

But hey since Sprint now owns Nextel maybe something will be coming down the pipeline since Sprint uses a CDMA network like Verizon.

My cell phone is a Company phone, so switching carriers is out of the question.

Thanks for the feedback though.

Well I'll be a cat's pijamas:

Looks like it's your lucky day! Looks like a nice PDA, and $480 isn't that bad for what you get. You should check it out.

By the way, WM5 will have Blackberry-type push technology starting in Q1 or Q2 of 2006. Now if they could just get that compressed methane gas to run those power-hungry little guys, they'd own the world!

Here's a direct link to the phone on their site:

Well with Nextel and Sprint just finshng the merge. Give it 6 months to a year and you will be able to get what you want. Sure Nextels behind a little but hey when I have service on my cell phone there is no one with better reciption. (With service there is plenty of parts of teh US were they lack serves such as the Mountains of NC. But when I periodicly got service there you could call or DC chrystal clear were my friend who had Verison was all crackly and in and out.)
